*1840 Randolph Co Ala: Andrew Miller / John A D Miller.

*Texas Marriages, 1851-1900: Mary Jane Garrett to Andrew J. Miller, 24 Sep 1857, Nacogdoches, Texas.

*Texas Census 1820-90: Andrew Miller, Township: Beat 2, Rusk Co., Year: 1860. (There are several Andrew Millers)

A family letter dated Feb 18, 1861, written by Andrew and Mary Jane Garrett Miller from San Augustine, Texas to Mary Jane's brother M. S. Garrett in Llano, leads us to believe the young couple were having a hard time. They were married 1857 in Nacogdoches Co., moved to Ellis Co. for 1860 summer census, then back to San Augustine to send the letter in 1861. That is a lot of moving in those days. See 1836/1930 Texas Counties Maps: TXGenWeb.

*1860 Ellis Co. TX Division 7, #586:
A. T. Miller, 30, (1830), AL, $440/
M. J., 18, (1842), AL/
L. A., 2/12 TX.
(Ellis County is 3 counties NW of Rusk County. This is the only census I can find that sounds like Andrew with Mary Jane. The daughter, 2 months old, could be Louisa Miller b. abt 1859, TX.)

Andy is not found in any records after 1860. We suppose Andy was father of all Mary's children therefore he died somewhere around 1866. Mary Jane's last child James Andrew Muller was born in 1866. No documents have been found for births of his children. Missing at age 36, what happened to Andrew? Did he: join in the Civil War, die of a farm accident, die of a disease, or just run away from family responsibilities??

*1870 Bluffton, Llano Co., TX:
William H Tow, 21, 1849, MO, $120, farmer/
Mary Jane Tow, 28, 1842, Ala, house keeper/
step dau Louisa F. Muller, 11, 1859, TX/
Sarah L Muller, 10, 1860 TX/
Mary A Muller, 6, 1864, TX/
James Andrew Muller, 4, 1866, TX.
(Note mis spelling of Miller.) Llano court house burned in 1880. We have no record of William and Mary's marriage, but William states the names of his step children. William Tow was 7 years younger than Mary Jane. Why would William marry a woman with 4 children? Was Mary Jane a beautiful woman? Was she a wealthy widow? Was William feeling sorry for Mary Jane and her 4 children? Was William wealthy? Many questions go unanswered.

*Mary Jane died March 29, 1879 at age 39 and 4 months. (It is carved on her tombstone in Tow Cemetery.) (She left 4 children: Louisa F Miller, 20, b.1859, Sarah Miller, 19, b.1860, Mary Alice (Allie) Miller, 15, b.1864 and James Andrew Miller, 13, b. 1866.
