Vanderpool, Texas Cemetery. Davis, Petty, Eaton, Ivy, Brown, more
Vanderpool, Texas Cemetery
NW of Utopia, TX, SW Bandera County

This is the entrance to the Vanderpool Cemetery, a beautiful resting place. This cemetery is located near the Uvalde County line in SW Bandera County, Texas. (It was not flooded in July 2002.)
We think this is the best part of Texas Hill Country.
Back in 1976, the Cemetery caretakers tried to identify graves and mark them with small granite stones with last names only. Maggie Davis Williams (Maggie b.1900/d.1987, was daughter of Cug and Allie Davis) gave information about our family as she remembered it.

The Cemeteries of Sabinal Canyon book can be purchased from the Sabinal Canyon Chapter, DAR at PO Box 770, Utopia, TX 78884.
It covers cemeteries: Jones, Tarpley, Vanderpool, Waresville, and many family plots. Excellent source of information.

It was misting rain when they set a double stone for Allie Miller Davis and her youngest son, Jesse Lee Davis. I never met Allie, but she must have been a good mother. All of her 13 children survived her.

Mary Alice 'Allie' Miller Davis and son
Mary Alice (Allie) Miller Davis 1864\1918, was wife of Lycurgus Jefferson (Cug) Davis.
Jessie Lee Davis 1906\1920 died of Typhoid. He was the youngest child of Allie and Cug Davis.

Lycugrus Jefferson (Cug) Davis (Husband of Mary Alice (Allie) Miller Davis) died in 1944 and is buried in Sabinal Cemetery, Sabinal, Uvalde County, Texas.
Sabinal is 29 miles South of Vanderpool, TX. Cug and Allie had 13 children.

After Allie died in 1918, Cug moved to Sabinal, Texas.
There he married again at age 62 and had four more children.

A small block with "DAVIS". This is Cassandra 'Willy' Rasco Davis, wife of David Fort Davis. (There is no documentation.)

1 block with "EATON". This is Aunt Bet. (There is no documentation.)

Cassandra (Willy) Rasco Davis 1822\1916 was wife of David Fort Davis and mother of Lycurgus Jefferson (Cug) Davis.
Aunt Bet was oldest sister of L. J. Cug Davis: Lucy Elizabeth Davis b.1840 KY\d.1925 Menard Co., TX married: 1. William B. Ivy; 2. John Carson; 3. Julius M Joe Eaton.

This is Sarah Brooksie Davis Brown b.1881 possibly in Llano, TX\d.1920 Uvalde Co. TX, wife of George Henry Brown. She was first child of Allie and Cug Davis. There is some confusion about names and how many of her babies buried here. Brooksie died of Typhoid. Brooksie, Little Jesse and Charlie all had Typhoid. Charlie was the only one that lived. Research tells me that Typhoid was quite common in late summer. It came mostly from bad drinking water.

The Ivys listed below are descendants of Lucy Elizabeth Davis Ivy and buried in Waresville Cemetery South of Utopia.

This is the Petty family stones in the VANDERPOOL Cemetery.

There's a little mix up here, but I am trying to work it out. All help would be appreciated.
