P.T. Barnhill departed this life February 1, 1939, at his home at Allsbrook, in Horry County. He was sixty-six years of age on February 1st, having been born in 1873. He was the eldest of a large family of bays and girls; a son of the late Robert Barnhill and Mrs. Frances Barnhill, who lived for a number of years in the Louisville-Cool Spring section of this county.
He had five brothers, two of who survive as follows; A.M. Barnhill of Bladenboro NC and N.M.D. Barnhill of Ash NC, He had three sisters, two of whom survive: Mrs. Mellie Goff, of St. Paul NC, and Mrs. Daisy Gasque, of Laurinburg NC.
Townsend and his relatives, in early days were popular musicians, and they all attended church regularly and made music with remarkable vocal rhythm.
He was married three times. First to Miss Linnie Graham, Several years later he married Miss Lessie Coats, and following her death he was married to Miss Ellen Gasque. To these three unions several children were born and we learn the names of the following children who survive him: Mrs. Janie White of St. Pauls, NC, Mrs. Celia Skipper, St. Pauls, NC, Mrs. Issie Fowler of Fayetteville NC, also Eva, Lamar, Ethelle, Dennis, Grady and Major, all of Allsbrook. The later six are the children of the third marriage.

Patrick married Linnie J. GRAHAM about 1898. Linnie was born in 1873 and died about 1901, about age 28.

Mrs. Eva Barnhill Hess, 79, of 4317 Forest View Drive, Fayetteville, died Monday in LenCare Rest Home.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in C & Adams Street Church of God by the Revs. Donnie Anderson and W.C. Loftis. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Hess is survived by a son, Archie Barnhill of the home; three brothers, LaMer Barnhill and Graddy C. Barnhill, both of Fayetteville, and Major Dee Barnhill of Whiteville; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Henry Lamer Barnhill Sr., 78, of 1906 Hope Mills Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sapona Road Church of God by the Rev. William Braswell. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada McDowell Barnhill and his parents, Rosa Emma Watts Barnhill and Arel Manning Barnhill.

Final rites will be conducted Tuesday, April 24 at 11 a.m. at Inman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

He is survived by one son: Milton Ross Barnhill of Clarendon; four daughters: Doris Todd of Greenville, Muriel Fowler of Clarendon, Judy B. Ward of Whiteville, and Brenda Huggins of Loris, S.C.; four sisters: Lutie Mae Owens, Curlee Martin,and Mary Stone, all of Hope Mills, and Grace Moore of Fayetteville; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

CLARENDON -- Ada McDowell Barnhill, "A Woman of Love and Integrity," went to meet her Lord and Master Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001. She was 83.

A native of Dillon County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Ella Belle Alford McDowell.

Final rites were conducted Sunday, Feb. 11 in the Inman Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Thomas L. Ward. Interment was in Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Clarendon. Inman Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Wilbur Barnhill of the home; one son: Milton Ross Barnhill and wife Alma of Clarendon; four daughters: Doris Todd and husband G. Elton Todd of Greenville, S.C., Muriel Fowler of Clarendon, Judy B. Ward and husband Dr. Thomas L. Ward of Whiteville, Brenda Huggins and husband Earl of Loris, S.C.; two brothers: Monroe McDowell of Clarendon and James McDowell of Whiteville; five sisters: Letha Saber of Tabor City, Eudell McDowell and Elsie Mauley, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Bernice Hall of Newport, and Frances Guagliardo of Kissimmee, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 22 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Grover E. Todd Jr., Tony Ward, Brian Todd, Russ Barnhill, Ross Barnhill, David Huggins, Shane Ward, and Cameron Huggins.

HALLSBORO -- Arthur-Wells ``A.W.'' Barnhill, 79, of 2950 Sam Potts Highway died Monday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Peacock's Chapel in the Pines by the Revs. Ted Mamby and Danny Nobles. Burial will be in Columbus Memorial Park.

VICTIM OF TRAILER FIRE IDENTIFIEDMonday, January 8, 1990
The person killed in a mobile home fire in Cumberland County on Saturday night has been identified as Herman Eugene Barnhill, 52, of 2735-A Gillespie St., authorities said Sunday.
Mr. Barnhill died of carbon monoxide inhalation, said Hershell Barbour, spokesman for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department.
Fire destroyed the mobile home in the Pine Haven Drive area behind Fayetteville Manufacturing Co. about 9:25 p.m., authorities said.
The fire remains under investigation, authorities said.

A man who died in a fire that destroyed a mobile home in the Pine Haven Drive area off U.S. 301 South Saturday night has been identified as 52-year-old Herman Eugene Barnhill of 2735-A Gillespie St.
Cumberland County homicide detectives said Mr. Barnhill apparently died of smoke inhalation. Foul play is not suspected. Investigators said Mr. Barnhill's identification listed the Gillespie Street address, but he may have lived at the mobile home.
The body was discovered by volunteer firefighters in an area believed to have been a bathroom off the middle bedroom of the trailer, Sgt. Hershell Barbour said this morning.
The blaze was discovered at about 9:25 p.m.
