While a policeman, Joseph was shot and wounded, suffering wounds in the neck which caused his arm to be paralyzed due to severe nerve damage.

Joseph and Helen married in 1924, when Joseph was 23 and my grandmother, Helen, was 21. The family is living at the address of 1106 21st Street in the Astoria area.

Article (required by law) appeared in the Long Island Daily Star Newspaper in June 1937 letting all know the family was changing their surname from Anselmini to Anselmin.

Joseph petitioned, with his family, to legally change their surname from "Anselmini" to "Anselmin" in April, 1937.

A special session of term was convened and presided over by William P. Wiener, Justice in the City Court of New York City, County of Queens, in the courthouse Chatham Phurix Building, Long Island, New York.

The petition was verified and honored, and a copy of the order was placed in the Long Island Daily Star and filed with the court within the specified forty days.
