James Andrew Gallery, the oldest child of Patrick and Johanna "McGrath" Gallery, was born May 14, 1857 near Springfield, Mass.
James moved to Iowa with his parents in 1868 at the age of 11. He grew up on the original Patrick Gallery farm in Fremont Township of Buchanan County. At the age of 35 (June 1, 1892) he married Teresa Kane in Monti, Iowa. They farmed 275 acres just to the northeast of the original Gallery farm. He retired from farming in 1926 and moved to Waterloo, Iowa where he died at the age of 84 on Jan. 15, 1942, a few days after breaking his hip in a fall at his home.
Teresa died in 1950. Both she and James are buried in Masonville, Iowa.

Vera M. Gallery (3/25/1893-1/4/1971), the first child of James A. and Teresa "Kane" Gallery, attended Clark College, Dubuque,Iowa. She never married.
Teresa Zita Gallery (1/11/1895-?), the second child of James A. and Teresa "Kane" Gallery, attended Clark College, Dubuque, Iowa. She never married
Daniel James Gallery (12/9/1896-4/18/1964), the third child of James A. and Teresa "Kane" Gallery, attended Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa. He practiced law in Winterset, Iowa. He married .Mary Marquerite Yorkon 1 December 1951 in Davenport, Iowa. She was born March 1917 in Stanwood, Iowa and died 9 Nov 1992 in Winterset,Iowa. Marguerite's parents were Charles A. and Ella E. York.
Marie Johanna Gallery (5/8/1899-?), the fourth child of James A. and Teresa "Kane" Gallery, married Gail Henry Ives(born 28 Feb 1899, Rolfe, IA - died Jan 1973). He and Marie were married 9 June 1926, Waterloo, Iowa. Gail's parents were Morris Norton Ives born in Connecticut. In the 1930 U.S. Census they were living in Pocahontas, Des Moines, Iowa. Children shown in the household were James, age 2, R. Ives age 6/12, Genola J. Ives, age 11/12. Sometime after 1830 their son Gail Henry Ives, Jr was born. They later moved to Osage, Iowa.
In 1977, Marie wrote the following about her father as she remembered him: "My father was probably five feet eleven inches tall in his early days. He was never heavy and had dark hair and deep set blue eyes. He always wore a mustache.>BR> He was always interested in education and read a great deal. His chief interest was history and politics. He listened to the radio in later years. He was director of Excelsior School in Fremont Township for many years and was township clerk for Fremont Township These are some impressions of my father."
Isabel Ellen Gallery (17 July 1901 Winthrop, IA - 9 Feb 1960 Manchester, IA), the fifth child of James A. and Teresa "Kane" Gallery, married Patrick Callan 7 Apr 1926.
