Above
text is written on back of photo. This photo belonged to Clara
Cantrell. Clara Ann b.1913 was d/o Henry Cantrell and Fannie May
Prosise. John Cantrell b.1896 and Tom Cantrell b.1899 were
Henry's brothers. The 1900 census finds Josh Cantrell and
family in Travis Co.; 1910 finds them living in Eden, Concho Co.
and 1920 the family was back in Williamson Co., TX. Photo taken
about 1908/1919. (I have not found a town called Chalk Bluff.

West Main
School was a historical landmark torn down by certain Uvalde
business men to put in a strip mall back in the 1970s. The mall
was never built. The red bricks went in many directions. My
mother had graduated from this school. I had aunts, uncles, and
cousins that were students here. Memories linger of the old
school, the big dome at the top, playing on the fire escapes, the
big oak trees, my many friends, me getting hit in the head with a
baseball bat, the good teachers and the bad ones.
Mr. Schuman's tiny hamburger and malt cafe was close to the
school. He and his wife were so kind to me. SRC |
