 Mary Cantrell married Thomas Bingham May 12, 1873 in Uvalde Co., TX , daughter of Miles Cantrell and Isabel Collier. She was born March 1858 in Fannin Co., Texas, and died 1944 in Travis Co. TX.

On Mary's marriage certificate, she is
listed as Mary Cantwell married 12 May 1873 to Tho Bingham in Uvalde Co., Texas.

1880 Prec. 3, Uvalde Co., TX census: Mary, 21, born March 1858, is with her parents.

1880 Uvalde Co., TX census: Tho Bingham 27, born about 1852, with son James, age 4.

Mary divorced Thomas Bingham and married a Mr. Holder. Later Mary married Jefferson Winfield Townsley.

Clara Cantrell had Mary's obit and said Mary died in 1944 at age 85.
"Died Friday morning, age 85 yrs at home of her dau, Mrs. J. A. Moran near Austin". Obit says she was born & reared Travis Co TX , survived by daughter, Elizabeth Moran, 2 sons: Milas S. and William E. (no last names) of Austin, TX. Burial at Fiskville Cem., north of Austin, Travis Co., Texas.

Not sure, but I think this Prec 3 must have been up the Dry Frio River Canyon.

This is not a flattering picture of Mary. She probably would not have wanted her picture taken at this age. She would rather be remembered as young and full of the vitality that it took to get her through life.


My mom passed away January 2006. She was 84 and time had not been good to her body. Her mind was sharp til the end.
I had to sneak around to get her last photos.
