Easter Greetings

The Holy Bible; King James Version:

"In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week,
came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
And, behold, there was a great earthquake:
for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven,
and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it."
Matthew 28:1-2

"And the angel answered and said unto the women,
Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
Matthew 28:5-6

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world;
but that the world through him might be saved."
John 3:16-17

"... I am the resurrection, and the life:
he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die ..."
John 11:25-26

SONG: Easter Song by 2nd Chapter of Acts

"Hear the bells ringing
They're singing that we can be born again.

Hear the bells ringing
They're singing Christ is risen from the dead.

The angel upon the tombstone said,
'He has risen just as He said.
Quickly now, go tell his disciples
That Jesus Christ is no longer dead!'

Joy to the World
He is risen, Allelujah!
He is risen, Allelujah!
He is risen!
Allelujah!
Allelujah!
Allelujah!"

Easter Lily Photograph by Barbara Logan, March 2002

Easter Lilies are used to decorate churches and homes. The large, pure white blossoms remind Christians of the pure new life that comes to them through the Resurrection of Jesus.

The Easter Lily has long been a symbol of the new of life of Jesus. By itself, it stands as a Resurrection symbol and is often depicted in works of art as such. The Lily reminds us that all the events of Jesus' life point to His death and resurrection. The flowers are shaped like trumpets, proclaiming the good news of the resurrection of Jesus. The lily is also a symbol of new life which springs from a bulb that seemed to be dry and dead; again a reminder of Jesus resurrection.

The Easter Lily is a symbol of purity and holiness, and is associated with the Virgin Mary. Artists for centuries have pictured the angel Gabriel coming to the Virgin Mary with a spray of lilies in his hand, to announce that she is to be the mother of the Christ child.

The Lily in the BIBLE:
Lessons to trust are gathered from the Lily: Matthew 6: 28-30
Molded in the rim of the molten laver in the temple: 1 Kings 7:26 & 2 Chronicles 4:5
The principle capitals of the temple ornamented with carvings of lilies: 1 Kings 7:19,22,26
Used in a figurative sense, of the lips of the beloved: Song of Solomon 5:13

Have a Blessed Easter
