Song: Amazing Grace

In memory of our family buried in this cemetery

The descendants of A.T. Logan would like to thank our cousins, Mary Lou Logan Davis and her husband Lawrence Davis, Donnie Rantz, Arvil Sherrill, Jr. and his family, and all others who helped with the cleanup in May 2000, and the boundary marker project completed in October 2000 at the cemetery. Seven brick pillars and two concrete pillars, eight of which have a gray granite name block, were built to mark the boundary of the cemetery and to ensure that the cemetery will remain visible for generations to come.

Again, THANK YOU all for your help.

Logan Family Cemetery

Known graves include Alexander Thomas Logan, Charity Elizabeth Wiggins Logan, and one of their daughters, Mary Amanda Logan Berry. There are several other graves, but no other headstones present at this time. In the past there was also a tall slender headstone, but it has disappeared. Several Yucca plants were planted sometime in the past, presumably marking the other graves, as well as some small stones which we believe mark graves. There are also some graves which are unmarked. We hope to one day know the names of all who rest here.

History of the Location

A.T. Logan, his second wife Charity Wiggins and their children came to Taney County, Missouri from Christian County, Missouri about 1875. They are found in the 1870 Christian County, Missouri Census, then in the 1880 Taney County, Missouri Census. They purchased land near where the cemetery is located, down the hill on the White River.

Columbus "Lum" America Logan, a son of A.T. and Charity took out the original Land Patent on the land where the Logan Cemetery is located, dated March 1, 1904: "Lot 14 in Section 7, Township 22 North of Range 21 West, containing 52.01 acres." Obviously there were already burials taking place by then, as A.T. died and was buried in 1888.

Here is a Deed initiated February 11, 1904 which says that Lum and his first wife Alvira are selling the land to William T. Clowers. Lum didn't have the Land Patent at that time. The deed was notarized January 27, 1905 and filed March 13, 1905.

William T. and Sarah V. Clowers sold the land in 1911 to Mrs. Dorothy Garner. This is a copy of that Deed which says that 52.01 acres were sold, "with the exception of a strip of land used as a graveyard to wit commencing 16 rods South of the Northeast corner of said tract thence West 13 rods South 6 rods East 13 rods North 6 rods to beginning."

Dorothy Garner was the resident landowner for many years. Many of the Logan family knew Dorothy, and visited the cemetery during the years she lived there. In a letter dated 1967 from Judge Joseph R. Gideon, a descendant of A.T., he wrote, "Mrs. (Dorothy) Garner is a very lovely old lady and has given us her full cooperation. She was interested in history of old place." Joseph and his son did some brush clearing in the cemetery at that time. Dorothy lived there until her death, at which time the land went to her sons. In 1972 one son sold his interest in the land to his brother, as evidenced in this Deed.

The land was sold again by the Garner son, and in 1985 or 86 it was again offered for sale for $225,000.

Now there is an upscale subdivision there, with very expensive homes. It is called Country Bluff Estates.
