This is a very small portion of my husband's Plain family history. If you have any questions or you connect with any of these families please email me. I appreciate any help that I can get. Keep in mind that this is not a complete history that I am listing here. Some of the individuals had more than 1 spouse and not all dates are posted. No dates are posted for living individuals. If anyone has information on Valentine Plane or Margaret Jud I would really appreciate it. Valentine PLANE and Margaret JUD are named as parents on Robert PLAIN's death certificate. Robert PLAIN was born in Canada approximately 1844. He married Louisa KLINESMITH in 1865 in Tuscola County, Michigan. Louisa was from Pa. and the daughter of David KLINESMITH and Elizabeth YOUNG. Louisa died in 1869 leaving one child from her marriage to Robert. The child was John PLAIN born in 1866 in Tuscola County, MI. Robert married Louisa with the last name being spelled PLAIN, but when he married second wife, Martha PUTNAM in 1870 in Tuscola County, MI., he married with the name spelled PLANE. Martha PUTNAM was the daughter of Thomas PUTNAM and Almira GRIFFITH. Martha was born in 1848. Robert and Martha had children: Robert, Elias, Thomas, Harrison, Tallman, William and Margaret. Robert died in 1904 and Martha died in 1937. Robert's obituary stated he left 6 grown children to mourn his loss. John PLAIN, after the death of his mother, lived with his grandparents David and Elizabeth KLINESMITH. As rumor in the family has it that, Martha PUTNAM PLANE wanted nothing to do with the child from Robert's first marriage. There is reason to believe that Robert & Louisa also may have had a child named Amelia. Found on the 1880 census living with the David KLINESMITH family was John PLANE, a grandson & Amelia PLANE, age 12, a granddaughter. I do not know what happened to her. I can not find any further record of her. John PLAIN married Emmaletta MARTIN, born in 1874 in Dayton, Tuscola County, MI., and the daughter of George MARTIN and Tryphena SHOUP. George MARTIN was from New York and the son of Martin MARTIN and Louisa CLACEMAN. Tryphena SHOUP was from Ontario and the daughter of Jacob SHOUP and Ammarilla SUTHERLAND. John and Emma PLAIN had children: Oscar, Avis, Tryphena, Mary, Cora, Robert, William, Margaretta, Esther, Lyle, Marie and Phern. John PLAIN died in 1940 and his wife Emma died in 1943.
John and Emma's son, Oscar PLAIN was born in 1897 in Silverwood, MI. and he married Maleta LOCKWOOD. Maleta was the daughter of Albert LOCKWOOD and Asenath FISH. Maleta was born in 1903. Oscar and Maleta had children: John, James, Donald, Phyllis and Wayne. Oscar died in 1955 and Maleta died in 1998. James PLAIN, Oscar & Maleta's son, & his wife Arlene still own the Oscar PLAIN farm in Silverwood, MI.
The child of Oscar and Maleta, John PLAIN Sr. is my father-in-law. He first married Bernice GORDE. Bernice was the daughter of Henry GORDE and Katherine BELLER who resided in Silverwood, MI. Henry GORDE was the son of Christian GORDE and Maria EURICH, German immigrants from Russia. Katherine BELLER was the daughter of Johann (John) BELLER and Katherine ECKHARDT also immigrants from Russia. Henry and Katherine's daughter Bernice was born in 1931. John and Bernice had children: John Jr., Martin, William, Carrie, Connie and Patricia. John and Bernice were divorced. Bernice married secondly Larry VOLLMAR. They had children: Larry and Lori. They were divorced and Bernice moved to Alaska. Bernice died in North Pole, Alaska in 1977 as the result of a car accident. John Plain Sr. married secondly Marilyn HILTS. They had children: Linda and Clifford.
John PLAIN Jr. married first Lorna STEBBINS and they had one child Christopher. John and Lorna divorced. He married second Suzanne GILLESPIE and they had children: Tonya and Justin. John and Suzanne divorced. John married in 1995 to {me} Toni NEWSOME. We have no children together. Toni has a child named Genevieve from a previous relationship. They own Plain Trucking and live in Cass City, MI. Toni NEWSOME is the daughter of Lloyd NEWSOME and Tonya WALKER. Lloyd NEWSOME is the son of Roy NEWSOME and Cora CORNISH. Tonya WALKER is the daughter of James WALKER and Genevieve VINCENT.
