From the Quarterly:
The following record was written on lined paper and inserted into a Bible published in New York in 1854. On the fly-leaf is written:"This book is a present from Rebecca EARL to her mother Comfort PILE and should she survive her Mother she wishes the book returned to her. April 25th 1858 John T. EARL." It is obvious that the family record is mainly from the same period. The John T. EARL family is in the 1850 federal census, Brown County, Illinois. The places of birth, inserted into the entries below, are from the census entry. Abstract of newspaper obituary in the Bible:
Nancy Jane PILE born Indiana 13 December 1825, died 17 April 1904; moved to Morgan County, Illinois with her parents in 1828; years later they moved to Adams Co., near Clayton; married 7 April 1847 J.D. McPHERSON; lived near Ripley and raised a large family; joined the Methodist Church when young; later joined the Christian Church; funeral at home of Ellis JOHNSON; services by Rev. N.E. CORY.
