Adam M. ADAMCZYK--Kingston--Died Tuesday, October 9, 2001 in Hurley Hospital, Flint due to injuries from a car accident. He was 48. He was born October 30, 1952 in Cass City, the son of John E. and Mihalina (Mary) (Lewicki) Adamczyk. He married Carol Wilcox on June 7, 1986 in Marlette. He owned and operated Adamczyk Masonry, and was a lifelong area resident. He performed various community masonry projects, including the Kingston Community School. He also was an avid hunter, fisherman, and snowmobiler. Allen is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Christina and Heather Adamczyk, all of Kingston; one son, Jeremy Powell of Marlette; six brothers, John Adamczyk of Caro, Ronald Adamczyk, Larry Adamczyk, Lenny Adamczyk, Randall Adamczyk, all of Kingston, and Donald Adamczyk of Marlette; one sister, Nancy Barrios of North Branch; and his mother, Mihalina (Mary) Adamczyk of Kingston; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jennifer in 1987 and his father, John E. Adamczyk on January 8, 1996. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 12 in the Kingston Wesleyan Church. Pastor Kenneth Sandefur officiated with burial in East Dayton Cemetery. Kranz Funeral Home of Kingston was in charge of arrangements.

Wendell Milner ALLEN--Caro--Passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2000, at Caro Community Hospital following a brief illness. He was 83. He was born on November 15, 1916, at Caro, and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Caro High School. He married Eva Hall and she preceded him in death in 1990. He then married Jean Bardwell Turner. Mr. Allen retired in 1983 following 40 years of service with the Caro Post Office. He was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, a life member of both Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM and Caro Chapter #96, R.A.M. A veteran of World War ll, Wendell was past commander and a member of Caro VFW Post #4164. He is survived by his wife, Jean Allen; two sons, two daughters and spouses, Richard Allen of Lansing, James and Cathy Allen of McDongough, Georgia, Carolyn and Gary Abke of Arcadia, CA, Mary and Larry Brown of Defiance, Ohio; two step-children and spouses, Lana and Walter Brock of Nunica and John (Jack) and Marge Turner of Clearwater, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Allen. Funeral service will be held at Caro United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 17 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Duane Miller officiating. Burial will be in Indianfields Township Cemetery with military graveside services under the auspices of Caro VFW Post #4164. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Monday from 4-9 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. There will be a Masonic memorial service Monday at 7 p.m. at Collon Funeral Home of Caro. Memorials may be made to the Caro Community Hospital Endowment Foundation. Funeral arrangements were made by the Collon Funeral Home of Caro.

Helen J. ALVORD--Millington--Passed away Monday, September 4, 2000 at her residence. She was 94. Helen was born on December 4, 1905 in Millington and was the daughter of Charles and Isa (Haines) Hanlin. Helen lived in Millington her entire life. On December 6, 1927 she married Leon Alvord. He preceded her in death in 1962. Helen leaves to cherish her memory, her family, four children and their spouses, Charles and Catherine Alvord of Grand Blanc, Wilfred and Mary Alvord, Donald and Helen Alvord, Doris Webster, all of Millington, 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William (Bill) Hanlin in 1978. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 7 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington with burial to follow in Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Thomas Keef will officiate. Friends may call at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Wednesday from 1-9 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Millington Arbela Historical Society, the Millington Township Library or the Millington United Methodist Church.

Albert Eugene ANDREWS, III--Prince George County--Passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was 49. A native of Chicago, IL, he was the son of Nancy Hudock Andrews and the late Lt. Col. Albert Eugene Andrews, II, U.S. Army Retired. He was the assistant director of Public Utilities for the City of Petersburg, VA. He was past president of the following organizations: Miss Utility, Southside League Swim Association, Petersburg Country Club Swim Team, and the Virginia Association for Competitive Swimming. He was a member of the American Water Works Association, a former member of the breakfast Rotary, former golf coach for St. Vincent DePaul High School, and a former coach for Petersburg Recreation League Baseball. He is survived by his wife, Deborah B. Andrews; a son, Patrick Jason Andrews; a daughter, Jamie Leigh Andrews, all of Prince George; his mother, Nancy Hudock of Petersburg; a sister, Vicki Andrews Riley and husband, John of Caro; mother-in-law, Eloise O. Strawbridge of Tarboro, N.C.; brother-in-law, Wayne Bushman of Chesterfield; three nieces, Michelle, Jaclyn and Jillian Riley; and a nephew, Jay Riley. Graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 31 at Southlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Priddy officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, VA. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1124 Overbrook Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Local assistance was given to the family by Collon Funeral Home of Caro.

Andrew ANGERER, 83, well known Dubois farmer, died in the Daviess County Hospital, Washington, yesterday morning. He was taken to the hospital on Monday of last week for an emergency appendectomy. It was discovered upon operating that his appendix had ruptured. Peritonitis developed and this was given as the cause of death. Mr. Angerer was born on a farm near Dubois, the son of John and Anna Angerer. Seperate headline: Wife Died Recently-- His wife, the former Anna Kieffner, to whom he was married on February 4, 1892, passed away last April 4 at the age of 78, following a lingering illness. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. George Lichauer, of Dubois, Mrs. Ervin Dodson and Mrs. Clarence Cave of Indianapolis, Mrs. William Braum of Jasper, and Mrs. Walter Goose of Cincinnati, O; a son, Henry, at home, a brother, Fred, of Dubois, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. The body is at the Beecher and Son mortuary in Jasper, where it will remain until time of funeral services at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Immanuel (Hill) church, near Dubois. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Fred ANGERER, 89, of the Dubois community died at 3:15 a.m. today in Mildred's Nursing Home in Jasper where he had been a patient for the past nine weeks. He was born on a farm 1 1/2 miles north of Dubois, the son of John and Anna Hubsch Angerer, and lived there all his life. A son, Henry, also lives on the home place. Surviving besides the son are a daughter, Mrs. John Mann, of R. 1 Shoals; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Angerer was the last member of the John Angerer family. One of his sons, Edward Angerer, died in camp during World War I and a daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Bauer, also preceded him in death. His wife, the former Margaret Pfaffenberger, to whom he was married on Dec. 31, 1891, died on Jan. 2, 1952. Friends may pay their respects at the Beecher & Son Mortuary after 6 p.m. today. Services will be held there at 1:15 p.m. Monday by Rev. N.A. Schott followed by continued services at 2 o'clock in the Emmanuel Lutheran Hill Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A short service will be held at the Beecher & Son Mortuary at 1:15 Friday afternoon for Mrs. Margaret Angerer, wife of Fred Angerer, Sr., of Dubois. Continued services will be held in the Emanuel Hill Church near Dubois at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Angerer, who was 81, died yesterday morning following a lengthy illness.

Rev. Dr. Richard J. ARNOLD--Brownstown, MI.--Died Tuesday, June 5, 2001. He was 65. He was the founding pastor of Charity Baptist Church, Brownstown, MI. He was the beloved husband of Ardys; loving father of April Gwen (David) Goff, Melody Joy (Rev. Clive) Ellis, Dawn Lee (Mark) Palloni, Gay Lynea (Michael) Frank, and the late Candy Kay Barrett; dear father-in-law of Mark Barrett; grandfather of 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters. Funeral service was held Friday, June 8 at John Molnar Funeral Home in Brownstown.

Ernest C. AUERNHAMER--Reese--Son of the late Carl J. and Alma E. (Hecht) Auernhamer passed to his eternal home Monday evening July 9, 2001. He was 73. He was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Denmark Township, Tuscola County, and died at his home after a brief illness. Surviving are his children and their spouses, and grandchildren, Roger E. and Patty Auernhamer and their children, Katlyn and Kyler, of Longmont, Colo., Audrey J. and Arlis VanDeVeer and their children, Robin and Sally, of Vassar. Ann E. Basnight and her children, Neeah and Harry of Sterling, Va, Phyllis G. and Greg Squanda and their children, Megan and Aaron of Saginaw, Bradley W. and Ann Auernhamer and their children, Kara and Kyle of Vassar; one sister and three brothers and their spouses, Lorna M. Kern of Vassar, Ruben R. and Mildred Auernhamer of Frankenmuth, Howard E. and Edith Auernhamer of Vassar, and Glenn N. and Nancy Auernhamer of Reese; also Janet Wilson Auernhamer, the mother of Ernie's children; his dear and close friend, Beverly Wolinski of Prudenville; and many extended family and good friends. Ernie was a confirmed and active member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and School in Richville having served in various capacities. He was drafted in October, 1950, and served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ernie retired from Consumers (Power Co.) Energy in Saginaw after 36 years of service. He voluntarily served with the Richville Fire Department, was a member of the Richville Conservation Club, and the Richville Lions Club where he participated in numerous fundraising campaigns and was the club's last remaining charter member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife, wine and sausage making, farming, gardening and spending time and sharing with his family and friends. Funeral service took place at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13 from St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Richville. Rev. David E. Hakes and Rev. Wesley L. Gillaspie officiated with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Leader Dog for the Blind, Michigan Eye Bank, or St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Richville. Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home of Reese was in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice AVERY--Caro--Passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. She was 87. Mary Beatrice Taylor was born on June 13, 1912 in Juniata Township to Harry and Mary Taylor and was a lifelong Tuscola County resident. She married Fred Avery on February 15, 1931, in Caro and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1995. Beatrice raised her family and worked during the campaign at the W.N. Clark Canning Co. She and her husband were often seen in area restaurants where they spent much of their time visiting with their many friends. She was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons and spouses, Norm and Trudy Avery of Caro, Gary Avery of Caro, James and Linda Avery of Caro; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Telfor of Cass City; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Clinton, Ben and Henry Taylor; a daughter, Elaine; and a daughter-in-law, Elva Avery. Funeral was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Saturday, May 27 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Wigand of First Baptist Church of Caro officiating. Burial was in Indianfields Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Caro Community Hospital Endowment Foundation or the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility.

Frank S. AYMER, Jr.--Akron--Died Thursday, August 24, 2000 at his home. He was 61. Born in Bay City, March 24, 1939, the son of Stuart and Amelia (Jablonski) Aymer, he moved to Fairgrove at an early age. He and Irene J. Dudek were united in marriage July 2, 1976 and moved to Akron. He was a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Math and Russian. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Caro, a member and supporter of the Aviary Society, a supporter and board member of the Bay Area Council of Boy Scouts. He loved woodworking, fishing, his pet birds, computers and the internet, also basketball, especially girls basketball, and the Pistons. He was a private pilot and once owned his own airplane. He retired March 1999 from Dow Corning as supervisor of telecommunications with 23 years of service and formerly worked with Consumers Power as computer analyst with 10 years service. Surviving are his wife, Irene; four stepchildren, Edward Westerby and Roxanne of Akron, Michele and husband, Larry Latimer of Akron, Daniel and wife, Patricia Westerby of Kingston, Steven and wife Susan Westerby of West Bloomfield; six grandchildren, Katie Latimer and fiance Matthew Long, Danielle Latimer, Allison Latimer, Daniel Powell, Cristina Westerby, and Richard Westerby; one brother and one sister, Mary Jo and husband, Willis Wager of Fairgrove, Edwin and wife, Caron Aymer of Fairgrove; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service was held 10 a.m. Saturday from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Caro. Rev. Fr. Kenneth E. Yaroch officiated. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel, Fairgrove was in charge of arrangements.

Rose Mary BABCOCK--Caro--Passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper in Saginaw. She was 72. She was born on October 29, 1928, in Reyno, Arkansas, and came to Walled Lake, MI. in the 1940's. The former Rose Mary Baker and George Babcock were married on December 24, 1947, in Farmington. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1990. Rose was a homemaker, worked for a short period of time at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, and was an Avon lady for years. She enjoyed doll collecting, flea markets and auctions. She was a member of the Caro and Cass City Church of Christ. She is survived by one son, one daughter and spouses, David Lee and Sheila Babcock of Cass City, Debra and Donald Mantey of Fairgrove; four grandchildren, Jordan Donald and Casey Rose Mantey, Shelby David and Ardella (Ann) Babcock; four brothers, one sister and spouses, Glenda LeBlance of Highland, Charles and Helen Baker of Farmington Hills, Norman and Suzanne Baker of Deleplane, Virginia, Donald and Beverly Baker of Santee, California, Glen and Brenda Baker of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; her special friend, Grant Watson of Caro. She was preceded in death by twin sons, Michael Ray and Martin Ray in 1952; and two brothers, Eugene and Dick Baker. Funeral service will be held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Monday, October 8 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Wigand of First Baptist Church of Caro officiating. Burial will be in Ellington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Saturday from 7-9 p.m., on Sunday from 4-9 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.

Sulvens BADGLEY--Grindstone City--Sulvens Badgley, 71, died following a stroke a few weeks ago. He was born Oct. 19, 1869, in Ethel, Ont. Surviving are his widow; five sons, Orrie and Roy Badgley, of Grindstone City, James of Kinde, William, of Fillion, and Sulvens, of Detroit; four daughters, Mrs. Darcy Cole, Mrs. Ray Sutton, Mrs. Stanley Thompson, and Mrs. Frank Grills, all of Detroit; 23 grandchildren; four brothers, Sturn, Thomas, and Walter, all of Kinde, and Orlando, of Gaylord; and four sisters, Mrs. Sidney Ellsworth, of Vanderbilt, Mrs. Edward Merchant, of Grindstone City, Mrs. James Sheperd, of Fillion, and Mrs. Mark McKay, of Grindstone City. Mr. Badgley was a member of the Grindstone City Methodist Church. The Rev. Aaron Mitchell will officiate and burial will be in the Port Austin Cemetery.

Elizabeth Faye BAGGLEMAN--Kingston--Died Sunday, August 20, 2000 in Kingston. She was 80. She was born June 3, 1920 in Fillmore, Illinois, the daughter of the late Thomas and Rachel (Meriman) Davis. She was a graduate of Blue Mound High School, Blue Mound, Illinois. Elizabeth married Walter Baggleman on December 18, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a registered Nurse, with master's degrees in nursing and geriatrics. She received her degrees from Brokaw School of Nursing class of 1938, Illinois Wesleyan University, Wayne State University and Central Michigan University. She was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Before moving to the Marlette-Kingston area 19 years ago she lived and worked in St. Clair area serving as public health nurse, a home nurse and was the nurse at Lakeview Public Schools when she retired. Elizabeth also taught nursing at Grace Hospital in Detroit receiving the Educator of the Year award from the State of Michigan. In Marlette she was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, the Marlette VFW Auxiliary, National Education Assn., Michigan Education Assn., AARP, and served on the board of directors at Marlette Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Walter; daughter, Jean and Daniel Kempa of Kingston; son, Tom and Sue Baggleman of Arizona; brother, Joe and Maxine Davis of Illinois; three grandchildren, Wesley, Sara, and Elizabeth. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Edward and Tom, and Marion; and a sister, Bonnie. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A family and friends gathering time was held on Tuesday, August 29 from 4-9 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, August 30 at 11 a.m. at the Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marlette. Memorials may be made to Marlette Community Hospital or an educational fund for the grandchildren. Marsh Funeral Chapel Inc. of Marlette was in charge of arrangements.

Minerva Emeline BAILEY--Mrs. Minerva Emeline Bailey died in Traverse City on February 17, 1925 at the home of her niece, Mrs. S. B. Harvey. She was born at Adrian, Michigan March 15, 1840 and was the daughter of Samuel Woodward and Polly Brown, who came from Bridgewater, Vt., to Michigan in 1836. Mrs. Bailey was the youngest one in a family of nine children, having six brothers and two sisters, all of whom were born in Vermont. In her pioneer home she knew well the trials and vicissitudes of the early residents of a new country. Mrs. Bailey spent her childhood and girlhood near Adrian. She was married in January 1858 to Levi Greenfield, who lost his life on the way home from the Confederate prison at Decatur, Ala., in the explosion of the Sultana when crossing the river. They had two children, Irene Greenfield, who passed away a year ago at her mother's home here and a son who died at 15 months of age. In June 1867 she married Franklin Bailey. Three children were born to them. Earl Otto and Genevieve who died in childhood and Grace, the youngest who lives and teaches at Missoula Montana. Mrs. Bailey moved from Adrian to Hillsdale in 1867 which place has been her home ever since except two years spent in Cassopolis, where Mr. Bailey taught, then he returned here to teach in the local high school. The last six months she has been with a niece in Traverse City. During all these years of residence she has been devoted to her home and church. Many college students have known and appreciated her home and friendship during the years gone. Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Free Baptist Church on College Hill for nearly fifty years. She took an active interest in all its departments of work and its allied organizations and always shared in these services when time and strength permitted. For many years she was a member of the Womans Relief Corp and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a grand-daughter of Nehemiah Woodward, who saw service and endured hardship under Washington at Trenton. She also was a member of the W.C.T.U. Her home on College Street was filled with friends on Friday afternoon February 20th, who came to attend the funeral service and bear silent witness to a worthy life. Rev. W. H. Roberts of the College Church conducted the service. He spoke on the faith and fortitude of the Christian life which has been so well exemplified by her trust, sweetness and patience through the experiences of life. Miss Estelle Nash and Mr. and Mrs. N. T. Douglas sang. The pallbearers were neighbors--Messers, A. Hawkes, G. Halleck, H. Perry and F. Sanders. The floral tributes were many from relatives and friends. Mrs. Bailey was the last survivor of her family, her brothers Alvin and Elijah died in Hillsdale a few years ago. She leaves to mourn her going one daughter, Grace Bailey who has been devoted to her during these many years. There are also many nieces and nephews, aside from the daughter from Missoula Montana. They were here for the funeral, her nieces, Mrs. S.B. Harvey of Traverse City and Mrs. George Mount of Jackson; a nephew, Herbert Woodward of Benzonia; great-nephews, Wavland Harvey and family of Adrian and Stanley Harvey of the College.

Robert Wilbur BARTIG--Imlay City--Robert Wilbur Bartig, 85, of Imlay City, formerly of Romeo, died Saturday (June 3, 2000) at Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. He was born Dec. 7, 1914, in Kalamazoo. He married Betty Cole in Detroit on Feb. 2, 1944. He lived 22 years in the Imlay City area and he was formerly of Romeo. He had been employed as a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines for 11 years and as the personnel director of Pinkerton's Security Agency for four years. He also worked at Fisher Buick in Birmingham as a salesman. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and Romeo Rotary. He served on the Imlay Township Zoning Board of Appeals and as the deputy supervisor. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Imlay City; daughter, Cynthia (Harvey) Holland of Pelzer, S.C.; grandchildren, Lisa Millsap and Scott Kauffman; and sister, Wilma Schoenbohm of Orlando, Fla. Visitation will be 11-noon, Saturday (June 10, 2000) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be at noon, Saturday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Douglas Asamoa will officiate. Burial will be in May Memorial Inc., Port Huron.

Helen Reitter BAUER--Reese--Died Wednesday morning, May 24, 2000 at her residence. She was 88. The former Helen Reitter was born October 5, 1911 in Blumfield Township, Saginaw County, daughter of the late John and Johanna (Schweikher) Reitter. She married her husband of 63 years, William J. Bauer February 6, 1937 in Richville. Mrs. Bauer was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville and enjoyed gardening, crocheting and doing needlework. Surviving in addition to her husband Bill, are her children, Fred Bauer of Reese, Joan Bowen and her husband Ethan of Renton, WA, and Janet Kukuk and her husband Al of Macomb; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Alma Mueller of Saginaw. Mrs. Bauer was predeceased by two sisters, Clara Baker and Esther Reitter. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28 from the St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. Rev. David E. Hakes and Rev. Wesley Gillaspie will officiate with burial to follow in the St. Michael's Cemetery. Mrs. Bauer's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home in Reese Saturday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service. Eugene J. BEEBE--Fayetteville, Georgia formerly of Mayville--Died Thursday, April 5, 2001 of complications from lung cancer. The son of Warren and Ella Beebe grew up in the Mayville area and graduated from Mayville High School with the class of 1964. He attended Eastern Michigan University and worked for over 30 years in the airline business until he recently retired from Northwest Airlines. Survivors include his wife, Anna F. Beebe, of Fayetteville; daughter, Kimberly Stanley and husband, Mark Moss of Fayetteville; grandsons, Connor Moss and Mitchell Moss; his parents, Warren and Ella Beebe of Aurora, Colorado; and two sisters, Karen Kopka of Mayville and Kathy and husband Don Bolzman of Aurora, Colorado. Funeral service was held Sunday, April 8 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home chapel of Fayetteville, Georgia. The Rev. Dale Welden officiated with interment in Camp Memorial Park.

Clare E. BEITZ--Hedgesville, WV--Died Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at City Hospital. He was 67. Born July 24, 1933 in Caro, he was the son of the late Clayton Beitz and Lucille Abke Beitz. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of the Moose, Berkeley Post 14, American Legion, a life member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW, Martinsburg Eagles Club Post 4179, and Amvets. He leaves his wife, Edith Cox Beitz, at home; one son, Timmy L. Beitz of Baltimore; one stepson, Marlin E. Bowen of Dickerson, MD; one stepdaughter, Linda Lewis of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Amber Suggs, Cody Bowen and Jessica Beitz; and one brother, Leroy Beitz of Rose Island, MI. Service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 2 at the Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter F. Bowers officiating. Agnes C. Zelmer BENSON--Caro, formerly Fairgrove--Died Sunday afternoon, June 10, 2001 at her home. She was 76. She was born on July 29, 1924 in Yale, daughter of the late John and Mildred (Yeager) Downey. She married Adam Zelmer in 1941, and he predeceased her in 1965. Later Agnes married Wilfred Benson; he predeceased her in 1980. She retired from the Caro Regional Hospital as supervisor over housekeeping. Mrs. Benson was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Fairgrove. She had enjoyed traveling, bingo, cross-stitch, crocheting, knitting and playing cards. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Tom and Nancy Zelmer of Vassar, Roger and Kerri Zelmer of Caro, Carol and Dennis Wireman of Cadillac, Janet and Denny Ryan of Akron; stepchildren, Terry and Jerry Benson, Rick and Lynn Benson, Judy Benson, all of Bay City; 11 grandchildren, Dallas, Cindy, Penny, Roger, Jennifer, Josh, Tracy, Kathy, Shawn, Denny and Adam; five stepgrandchildren, Chris, Tim, Brian, Bethany and Jennifer; six great-granchildren, Katisha, Nuala, Devilin, Fineen, Alex, Lakeyn; and several nieces and nephews. Claude Stanley BLACK--Caro--Passed away on Monday, June 19, 2000 at Rendon Young at Heart Adult Foster Care. He was 88. He was born on May 21, 1912, at Akron to Karl and Minnie Black, and was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County. He was a graduate of Unionville High School and married the former Eithyl May Masters. She preceded him in death on December 26, 1979. During his lifetime Mr. Black was employed as a commercial fisherman, a surveyor's assistant, and until his retirement, with the Village of Caro. For many years he and his wife were foster grandparents. He was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church and Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM. William G. BLAKELY--Deford--Passed away Saturday, July 22, 2000 at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw, after a lengthy illness. He was 50. Mr. Blakely was born on September 14, 1949 in Cass City to Spence and Irene (Freeman) Blakely. William had attended the Akron-Fairgrove public school and lived in the Akron-Unionville area most of his younger years. On November 1, 1969 he was united in marriage to Wanda Heppner in Bay City. Mr. Blakely was of the Protestant faith attending various churches in the local area. Bill was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and maintaining his yard. He also was an enthusiastic dog lover. Bill was very active in community involvement, doing volunteer work for various organizations and assisting the elderly, shut-ins and anyone else he could help. William is survived by his wife, Wanda; two sons, William S. Rodoel of Reese, Edward L. Koehler of Deford; three daughters, Kelly C. Thompson of Kingston, Irene of Essexville and Tammy L. Schultz of Bay City; two brothers, Fredrick Blakely of Cass City and George Blakely; one sister, Rita Gonzales of Watrousville. A sister, Ruth and his parents predeceased him. Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 25 from the Briggs-Trenerry Funeral Chapel in Akron, with the Rev. Jerry W. Wallace of the Colling Church of the Nazarene officiating. Mrs. Borek was born February 22, 1918 in Detroit, daughter to the late Peter and Mary (Fortuna) Okopny. She married Joseph J. Borek November 7, 1959 in Redford Twp. He passed away on October 3, 1991. She was a member of the Clifford Baptist Church. Helen is survived by several nieces and nephews and one sister, Victoria Lamie of Trenton, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her father, Peter Okopny; her mother, Mary Fortuna; brothers, Alex, Steven, Len and Donald Okopny; and sister, Nellie Barnaby. Elizabeth was born April 4, 1905 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of *Gasper and Elizabeth (Miklovich) Hrehor. She lived on a farm with her family and went to school to be a nurse. She worked three years at Toledo General Hospital as a nurse for home health care where she met her husband-to-be. After their marriage they moved to North Branch. She and Hal J. Buck were united in marriage February 16, 1926 in North Baltimore, Ohio. He preceded her in death March 1984. Elizabeth enjoyed sewing and cooking. Surviving are daughter, Mary Johnson of Saginaw; grandchildren, Betty Jane and husband Donald R. He married Willie Rogers Davis in Ada on June 15, 1990. He was a supervisor at Superior Furniture in Lowell where they made custom furniture. He retired in 1991. He was a member of the Lapeer Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed Arizona in the winter. He is survived by his wife, Willie of Metamora; children, Nancy (William) Schreiner of Elgin, Ill., Stanley (Dianna) of Bancroft, Joseph (Beatrice) of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-children; several step-grandchildren; and brother, Joseph (Leona) of Flint. Josephine was born on June 27, 1916 in Dayton Twp., and was the daughter of Tom and Katherine (Putman) Plane. On November 16, 1934 she married Nelson Briggs. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1999. Josephine had lived in the Vassar and Mayville area until 1975, then moving to the Tawas and Sand Lake area. Randy Jay BUCKMASTER--formerly of Mayville--Passed away Sunday, June 4, 2000 of a brain aneurysm at the age of 31. Randy was the son of Gerald and Rose Marie Buckmaster, Mayville. He was born in Lapeer and lived most of his childhood in Mayville. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science and was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity. Randy was united in marriage January 8, 1994 to Lisa Breitzman of Escanaba. They lived in Baldwin, ND where Randy worked as a votech instuctor at the United Tribes Technical College. Randy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bismarck, ND. He loved farming and owned his own cabinet making business. Surviving are his expecting wife, Lisa and son Andrew James, of Baldwin, ND; two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Bruce and Kim Buckmaster of Mayville, Dennis and Mary Buckmaster of Yale, Connie Breitman of Escanaba, Julie Breitzman of Lake Tomahawk, WI; sister and three brothers-in-law, Rev. Arnold K. BUCHTENKIRCH--Unionville--Passed away Thursday, September 4, 2000. He was 87. He was born in Unionville on October 3, 1912, the son of Herman and Anna Korte Buchtenkirch. On September 21, 1935 he married the former Luella Johnson in Detroit. Mr. Buchtenkirch was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Sebewaing. He had been employed as an engineer with the City of Detroit in the Department of Parks and Boulevards, as a design specialist with the Frank Andersen Company of Saginaw, was mapping director for R.E.A., and was a quality control supervisor with Dow Chemical Company, Bay City. Following retirement Mr. Buchtenkirch enjoyed farming and was an avid golfer. Surviving along with Luella, his loving wife of more than 64 years, are their daughters, Barbara (Dale) Emeott of Midland, Rochelle (Don) Bertsch of Mount Pleasant and Janet (Donald) Tomalia, also of Midland; grandchildren, Jeanne (Robert) Rutstien, Larry (Cindy) Bertsch, Michael (Susan) Bertsch, Scott (Laura) Bertsch, Diane Emeott, Mark Emeott, Lisa (Jeff) Holden and Jeffrey Tomalia; and nine great-grandchildren.
