Descendants of
JONATHAN GRINNELL
(abt 1750 - 1827)

1.  Jonathan Grinnell was probably born in East Greenwich, RI to Matthew Grinnell and his wife Sarah Wilson.  Although residing in Jamestown in 1777 he was considered a legal resident of East Greenwich.  He married Martha Tennant in 1772 at Jamestown, RI, where he operated a ferry between Jamestown and Newport. In 1842, Martha (Tennant) Grinnell applied for a Revolutionary War pension under the Act of 1838.  Her application was denied because there was insufficient testimony that Jonathan Grinnell had served the required number of consecutive months.  NSDAR has refused to accept Jonathan Grinnell as a "patriot" because the only proof of his service is the testimony in the rejected pension file.
