Raymond Patrick Cahill

A Lifetime of Love

A Tribute to Raymond Patrick "Pat" Cahill

It's very seldom that a person steps into our lives that seemingly never had an enemy. I can't think of anyone that didn't like Pat or of anyone that he didn't like. He delighted in joking with everyone he met, and it was really hard to tell when he was serious or when he was just teasing. He treated everyone as he wanted to be treated and had many friends and nary a single enemy.

He loved to fish and to cook and on these pages I'll try to share some of my fondest memories and pictures of the man I call "Dad".

On this page I'll provide a little information about who I am and what inspired me to decide to make a tribute to my Dad. Pat didn't marry until late in life and devoted his early manhood to merrymaking and frolicking with his friends. He also remained at home and helped to care for his mother and father until his marriage to Irene. I haven't heard many stories from family members about my Dad, but am relying on ones he told me when I was a child. How I wish I had transcribed many of them to paper, but like most children, I didn't so I have to rely on my memories. I'm placing them here so that they won't be lost forever.

You could always count on Pat to be near whenever anyone needed help. He often bought groceries for friends whenever they would run out of money before the paychecks came in. On more than one occasion a man would come into Dad's tavern and proceed to spend his entire paycheck. The next morning would find Dad at the local grocery and dime stores buying the wife and kids the items they would need to get them through the week. When asked why he even cashed the men's paychecks he would reply, "If I don't, someone else will and then the family will have to do without."

This is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that might help round out the picture.

I'd like to thank everyone who provided me with stories, pictures and other items of interest about my father. Sometimes it's hard to view another person's life from just being a child, but with the help of everyone who shared their memories of Pat; this page should grow quickly. Remember to check back often for updates.
