These photos are copies, sent to Sandy Coulter by C. Warren Coulter, of the Ellis' Pugh home in Tyddyn y Garreg, Wales. C. Warren Coulter, the photographer, is a Pugh and Coulter cousin, who visited England, Scotland and Wales this Spring (1999).

Warren actually spent the night in Ellis Pugh's home. A young lady, lives there now with her husband and 6-year old daughter. She rents out one bedroom as a Bed and Breakfast, but normally only to couples. She had information about Ellis Pugh and old photographs of the house and the history of it as a meeting place for Quakers, but apparently nothing in addition to what we have found in the published records. In fact, Warren is sending her additional information about Ellis. History of the home provides no date as to when it was built, but according to the records, it was there in 1526. Since then, a section has been added to the right side of the home. The young couple residing there are sheep ranchers (farmers).

The picture of the large embroidered panel that is in the Quaker Museum, Dolgellau, Wales, was scanned from a post card that Warren also sent Sandy. (Dolgellau is pronounced Dog-geth-lay, with the accent on the middle syllable). The panel depicts the history of Quakers in Meirionnydd before the emigration to Pennsylvania, USA. The post card was produced by The Department of Education and Culture, Gwynedd Council, in Wales. In the lower-left center of the panel is a map showing the location of Dolgellau, Brithdir, and Tyddyn y Garreg. Looking at the far-right center, is a man and woman who are identified as Ellis and Sinai (sic) Pugh. Warren reported that "Sinai" is how her name is spelled everywhere it is mentioned, not "Sinah". The family to the left of Ellis and Sinai is the financier, or leader and partner of Ellis Pugh, Roland Ellis.

Warren descends from Ellis Pugh through his great great great grandmother, Sarah Pugh, who married William W. Coulter 12 February 1829 in Montgomery Co., Ohio. Sarah was born 1801 in Virginia, and was the daughter of Benjamin Pugh. My husband, Kenneth Dale Coulter and Warren, are cousins since Ken descends from Reece Coulter and Rhoda Pugh who were married 28 August 1828 in Montgomery Co., Ohio. Reece and William were brothers, and Rhoda and Sarah were sisters.

Warren owns all the rights to and in these photos, so they should not be used for any purpose without first getting his permission.
