Henry Mills was the fourth child and fourth son of John & Rebecca (I) Mills of England, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina. (See the Quaker Mills Website for more on this family including John's will.)

Hannah Thornbrough has been given as the daughter of either Thomas & Sarah Hamman Thornbrough or possibly as the daughter of Walter & Margaret Thornbrough (see the page on Hannah Thornbrough, wife of Abraham Woodward, for how the "Walter" error probably came about.)

Henry Mills was received at Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in Orange County, North Carolina, on 9/1/1753. His certificate was a joint one with brothers Thomas, John, & Hur and was dated 5/7/1753 at Hopewell Monthly Meeting in Virginia. Henry's father had transferred from Hopewell on 8/1/1752.

Henry, Thomas, John & Hur Mills would have been automatically transferred to New Garden when it was set up in 1754 and they are mentioned as part of the original membership. Henry & Hannah Mill's children are documented at New Garden Monthly Meeting as their membership was automatic when New Garden was set up in 1754.

Henry Mills was part of the original membership of Deep River in Guilford County when that meeting was set up in 1778 so no doubt had lived in the area that became Guilford County the entire time. Deep River was located in the western part of Guilford County, about 12 miles from Greensboro.

Daughter Sarah Mills was married at Deep River Monthly Meeting "Tarlton Johnson, son of Charles Johnson, of Amelia County, Virginia, and Sarah Mills, daughter of Henry Mills, of Roan Co., N. C., having declared intentions at New Garden in aforesdaid county, and "having consent of parents," were married at Deep River, 7 of 3 mo. 1765." Witnesses were: Rachel, Sarah, Elizabeth, Rebeckah, Jemima, and Mary Mills; Richard Beeson, Thomas Thornbrugh, James Johnson, Zachariah Stanley, Anthony Hoggatt, and Isaac Beeson.

Henry Mills has been accepted for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ancestor #A079909, based on patriotic service during the war. Applications have been accepted on Aaron and Charity Mendenhall and Hannah and Manlove Wheeler.
