Aaron Mills was son of Henry and Hannah Thornbrough Mills of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina and grandson of John and Rebecca Mills.
Charity Mendenhall was daughter of Mordecai and Charity Beeson Mendenhall of Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

The Move to Tennessee
Aaron & Charity Mills and family were granted certificates from Deep River Monthly Meeting in North Carolina to Westfield Monthly Meeting on 1/7/1793. Westfield Monthly Meeting in Surry County received certificates for those moving to the waters of the Holston River in future Tennessee.
Son Aaron is not included in the list of children given at Deep River Monthly Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina. However, there is a notation at Westfield Monthly Meeting: 1/19/1793 Aaron Mills and children John, Henry, Seth, Maris, Isaac, Moses and AARON received on certificate from Deep River dated 1/7/1793. Westfield Monthly Meeting was receiving certificates of those people who moved to the Holston River area in future Jefferson County, Tennessee, at that time. These people were still under the jurisdiction of the North Carolina Monthly Meetings and Aaron, Sr.'s death in 1794 and the birth of son William in 1794 are both listed at Deep River Monthly Meeting. Aaron (son) and Charity are then listed as charter members of Lost Creek Monthly Meeting in Jefferson County when Lost Creek was formed in 1797.
Aaron Mills died at Lost Creek, Jefferson County, Tennessee, while his youngest child was still a baby. He left the following will:
"I Aaron Mills of the County of Jefferson, and Western Territory South river Ohio, this third day of the eighth month in the year of our Lord 1794, being in perfect health of body mind and memory, but calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that its appointed for all men to die, I make and ordain this my last will and Testament and as touching such worldly Estate as it has pleased the almighty to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose of the same in manner and form following.
I give and bequeath to my loving wife Charity all and the whole of my Estate during her natural life, for the support, education and bringing up, of my Children, believing that she will do the best in her power for their preservation everyway, and what shall remain of my Estate at the decease of my wife, I will and desire that it may be equally divided amongst my Children then living, born before, or after this time. And lastly I do hereby appoint my trusty Friends Elihu Swain and Samuel Mills to be my Executors jointly with each other to this my last will and Testament. And I do hereby disannul, revoke and make void all other wills by me made, ratifying this, and no other, to be my last will and testament. Whereunto I have set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

The Move to Indiana
Charity Mendenhall Mills was granted a certificate to Lick Creek Monthly Meeting in Indiana August 27, 1814, and traveled to Indiana with her sons Henry, Seth, Moses, Isaac & William, and sons-in-law John Gwin & William Lock. Son John Mills had gone to Ohio in 1807 but met with the rest of the family in Wayne County, Indiana. Son Aaron had preceded them in July of 1814 or perhaps had his certificate early and accompanied them.
Certificates for the families were received at Whitewater Monthly Meeting in Indiana instead of Lick Creek: 11/26/1814 Henry and son Josiah; Hannah and daughter Anna Maria, and mother Charity; 12/31/1814 Rachel (wife of Isaac); 1/28/1815 Moses and son Milton; Elizabeth and daughter Garelda; Seth and son Aaron and Kinsey; and Charity and daughters Betsy Ann and Mary Ann.
The children are scattered about in Wayne County in the 1820 census and mother Charity is living with son Moses and family. Charity Mendenhall Mill's death is recorded at Springfield Monthly Meeting in Wayne County, Indiana.

John and Mary Davis Mills
Son John Mills married Mary Davis, daughter of John and Jane Mills Davis on 2/2/1803 at Lost Creek MM in Jefferson County, Tennessee. She was granddaughter of John and Sarah Millikan Mills. Their children were Jane (7/8/1804); Seth (10/3/1805); Elizabeth Ann(2/28/1807); Charity (9/3/1808); Aaron(2/5/1810); and Kerenhappuch(female 4/4/1812).
Daughter Jane married Dempsey Thornbrough, son of Walter and Mary Baldwin Thornbrough, on 12/22/1822 in Wayne County, Indiana. Dempsey was grandson of Henry and Rachel Moon Thornbrough. The other five children of John and Mary all married Canadys (we will sort those out and post them).
Seth and Charity Thornbrough Mills and Moses and Elizabeth Thornbrough Mills
Son Seth T. Mills married Charity Thornbrough, daughter of Walter and Mary Baldwin Thornbrough, on 9/30/1808 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. They had children Aaron, Kinsey, Betsey Ann, Mary Ann. These names were gleaned from transfer certificates when the family moved to Indiana. (see move to Indiana above).A son Jacob was born after the arrival in Indiana. Seth Mills is mentioned in the History of Wayne Co (1872) as building the second grist-mill in Dalton Township about 1826.
Son Moses Mills married Elizabeth Thornbrough, daughter of Walter and Mary Baldwin Thornbrough, about 1811 in Jefferson County. They had a son Milton, and a daughter Garelda mentioned in transfer certificates to Indiana (see move to Indiana above). They had a son John born 1828 in Indiana, the year that father Moses died.
Both women were granddaughters of Henry and Rachel Moon Thornbrough and sisters of Dempsey Thornbrough who married John�s daughter Jane(above).
Isaac and Rachel Beals Mills
Son Isaac Mills married Rachel Beals sometime before 7/27/1811 in Jefferson County as both condemned their marriage contrary to discipline at Lost Creek Monthly Meeting on that date. We have so far not been able to identify Rachel's parents as the Beals name is so common there. Also we do not know why Rachel alone had a certificate to Indiana (see move to Indiana above).
Aaron and Nancy Fife Mills
Thanks to a descendant, Larry Mills, we have added son Aaron Mills to the children of Aaron and Charity Mendenhall Mills. (See notes above under the move to Tennessee for proof that he was an additional son.) In the Lost Creek Monthly Meeting Records it includes three entries: 10/30/1813 Aaron con his fighting; 12/31/1814 Aaron con his marriage contrary to discipline; and 7/28/1815 Aaron gct to Whitewater MM [Indiana]. Lawrence Lee Mills gives a marriage bond, dated 7, 6, 1814 Jefferson County, Tn issued to Aaron Mills and Nancy Fife, with a Jonathan Thornburgh as bondsman. There should be further records at Whitewater MM.
Aaron Mills is listed in the Daughters of the American Revolution under Fil3 #A079836. The file carries him erroneously as dieing at Deep River, North Carolina. He furnished supplies during the Revolution. Other applications filed under his includ Charity Ellen Wills with husband John Gwin and Henry Mills with wife Hannah Woodward.
