Thomas and Mary Ann Beals Hunt Family
-------------------------------------------

Thomas Hunt was son of William & Mary Woolman Hunt of England, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Thomas Hunt's parents died while his brother William Hunt was quite young (bef. Sept 1746)and Thomas probably took on the care of his brother. Thomas's sister Margaret Hunt married John H. Beals, brother of Mary Ann Beals.

Mary Ann Beals was the daughter of John & Sarah Bowater Beals of Pennsylvania and Virginia. The Beals were very strict Quakers and whether it was Thomas and Mary Ann Beals Hunt or John and Margaret Hunt Beals who looked after William, they no doubt had a strong Quaker influence on him.

After Thomas Hunt's death Ann Beals married William Baldwin, parent of Ann Baldwin who married Samuel Millikan. William & Ann Beals Hunt Baldwin had no children as they were in their 60's and 70's when they married (6/18/1788 New Garden MM).

Thomas Hunt's History

(Thanks to Bill Putnam for information on this family. Additional information from Hinshaws Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy)
The first Quaker record of Thomas Hunt is at Fairfax Monthly Meeting, Louden Country, Virginia. Fairfax was split off from Hopewell Monthly Meeting in Frederick County, Virginia, the meeting of the Beals family. It was located about fifty miles from Hopewell Meeting. The record (reconstructed by Hinshaw, Vol VI, page 513) reads: "Hunt, Thomas recrq 16-6-1749; he and his wife gct Carver's Creek MM, Bladen Co. N.C. 25-6-1750 (Note: They were original members of Cane Creek MM, N.C., estb in 1751; trans. to New Garden MM, N.C. 1754; lived in Roan Co N.C. later)." Thomas's brother Eleazar Hunt and sister Hannah Hunt (married William Kersey) were also received by request at this meeting and are later found at New Garden Monthly Meeting in North Carolina.

On 19 October 1756 Richard Williams deeded to Henry Ballinger & Thomas Hunt for five pounds sterling, 53 acres, to be used by the Quakers for the New Garden Meeting House and for a cemetery. The deed was witnessed by John & Bowater Beals.
