John McWhorter’s application for a pension

Declaration in order to attain the benefit of The Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832

On this Twenty-seventh day of July 1832 personally appeared before me John Riffe one of the Commonwealths Justices of the Peace in & for the County aforesaid John McWhorter a resident of the County of Casey & State of Kentucky aged eightythree years who being first duly sworn according to Law Doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to attain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832 That he Entered the Service of the United States under the following named officers and Served as herein Stated in Capt Thompson’s Company Regiment commanded by Colo Feair in 177(8?) when the British & Tories first appeared in Union District State of South Carolina. he turned out as a volunteer & served from the Commencement of hostilitys in that part of the State of South Carolina until the close of the War. He was at all times ready & stood(?) as a minet man & was in several small engagements with the Torys. Served the Snow Campaign as so called (?) 1778 & in the same state under the same officers served(?) what is called Birch(Bush? Brush?) River Campaign, & was (thro? also?) the same year at Fortainberry Station as (garde?) & upon the Conggeree River. Was at Nintysix in the year 1781 under General Morgan & was in the Battle at Bacon Bridge(Ridge?) & 1781 was on a tour of duty at Worfords Iron Works & at the Cherokee Forte on Reade River. He further states that all his documentary evidence is lost and that he knows of no person whose testimony he can (name? produce?) who can testify to his Services. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity (except the present?) and he declares That his name is not on the Pension Roll of the agency of any State.
