pp 16-18 ..This Indenture made the 17th September 1778 Between John Alfred Head and Elizabeth his wife of County of Culpeper of one part and Hadley Head of Orange County Witnessed that said John Alfred Head and Elizabeth his Wife for the sum Fifteen pounds current money of Virginia hath granted unto the said Hadley Head his heirs forever land in the Parish of Bromfield County of Culpeper containing Eighty eight acres and bounded Beginning at three black oaks Corner of John Beal thence with his line South to a Corner claimed by the said BOBO thence South to two pines Corner to Ambrose Barnett thence North to three pines on the North side the head of a branch one of which is marked I x T formerly a Corner to Gibbens now Lynes thence North to three pines on the North side of Medleys Road Corner to a line belonging to John Medleys Orphans thence South to the Beginning...

THIS Indenture made the fifteenth day of August in year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Eighty three Between Hadley Head of Culpeper County and Mildred his Wife of one part and Whorton Canady of the said County of the other part Witnessed that Hadley Head and Mildred his Wife for and in consideration of the sum of Seventeen pound Ten shillings current money of Virginia to him and said Hadley Head in hand paid by these presents doth bargain and sell unto Whorten Canedy his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract of land lying and being in Parish of Broomfield and in the County of Culpeper & containing by Estimation eighty eight acres be the same more or less and bounded Beginning at three black Oaks and Hickory and two Pines, Corner to John Beal, thence with his line South seventy five degrees East eighty pole to three small red Oaks & Pine another Corner to said Beal thence with his line to a white Oak red Oak and Pine, a corner claimed by the said BOBO thence South seventy four degrees East forty poles, thence Sough sixty one degrees East forty one poles to two Pines and white Oak Corner to Ambrose Barnett, thence North seven degrees West thirty two poles to three Pines on the North side of the head of a Branch. One of which is marked F F formerly a corner to Gibbin’s now Lyne’s thence North five Degrees West One hundred and forty six pole to three Pines on the North side of Medleys Road. Corner in a line belonging to John Medley’s Orphans thence South fifty four degrees West One hundred and Eighty poles to the Beginning with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging and all right Title Interest and demand whatsoever of them the said Hadley Head, Mildred his Wife of in and to the premises To have and to hold the premises aforesaid with the appurtenances to Whorton Candadey his heirs and assigns forever and Hadley Head and Mildred his Wife their heirs doth covenant to peaceably and Quietly have hold possess and enjoy the said premises with appurtenances without the lawful Lettt  Suit Hindrance disturbance of said Hadley Head & Mildred his wife their heirs or assigns free and clearly discharged of all Encumbrances whatsoever in Witness whereof the parties to these presents have Interchangeably set their hands and Seals the day & year first above written in presence of us.. At a Court held for Culpeper County the 18th day of August 1783 This indenture was acknowledged by the parties and ordered to be recorded, previous to which the said Mildred was first privately examined as the Law directs

pp..358-359 Know All Men by these presents that I Mary Head of the County of Culpeper for divers good causes and considerations but more Especially for the love and affection which I bear unto my Son John Alfred Head of said County have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto said John Alfred Head One Bay Mare named Phillis, with all her increase also all the whole of the articles of household and kitchen furniture left with the above Mare in the possession of the said John Alfred at the death of his Father, Alfred Head, together with all the crops and benefits arising from the Services of a Negro wench named Judah from and after the death of the said Alfred, To have and to hold the same to him his heirs or assigns forever to his and their proper use and against the claims or demands of any person whatsoever shall warrant & forever defend by these presents in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this seventeenth day of May One thousand seven hundred and Eighty three in presence of William Robirtson, John Robertson, Alexr. Oldham County Kentucky Deed Book A 1824-1829

30 August 1824: Reuben Burton of Ralls Co. Missouri: "I appoint my son, John M. Burton my true and lawful atty in fact for me to demand, ask, sue for, collect and receive all and all manner legacies, negroes, lands, monies, goods, chattels, and rights of inheritance whatsoever, that may be due me from the estate of my father in law Hadley Head, late of Henry County, KY, deceased. Any part of the legacy I might claim as the husband of Mary Burton, formerly Mary Head, one of the daughters of said Hadley Head of Henry Co. I do authorize my attorney in fact to collect, sell, convey, settle for, and dispose of form them in any lawful manner. Said John M. Burton of the Co. of Ralls, state of Missouri may lawfully do in my behalf touching the premises hereinbefore mentioned by virtue of these presents. Sig. Reuben Burton Wits. John Burton & Isaac Ely

15 November 1824: Joel Jackson & Nancy his wife, late Nancy Head of Henry Co.: Whereas Hadley Head, late of Oldham, father of said Nancy departed this life in the month of April last, and by his will making sundry devises, willed the remainder of his estate to be divided amongst his seven children therein named, said Hadley Head claimed title to about 400 acres in Oldham on which he lived at the time of his death, the said Joel Jackson & Nancy Jackson his wife hath  bargained & sold unto sd Benjamin Head all their right and title to sd tract of the 400 acres, and if Wm Taylor, Richard Oglesby, Elijah Yager & other, Commrs. appointed to divide the estate, have allotted to Nancy a portion thereof, then hereby convey to sd Benjamin Head the lot thus assigned. 19 May 1825: Jacob Bowman and Eleanor his wife of Bullitt County: To John Head of Oldham for $800, a tract on waters of Floydsfork, being part of a tract of land containing 1,000 acres patented to Isaac Hite and Jacob Bowman, 200 acres. (Beg. Corner of 1,000acre survey, corner of Wm Wells, crossing Floydsfork, or a fork part of it) Nelly relinquished right of dower. Signed Jacob Bowman, Nelly Bowman

15 October 1824: June 1826: Division of Hadley Head: Agreeable to an order of the Oldham Co. Court, Commrs. divided the estate, Lot No 1 to Benjamin Head 62 1/2 ac., Bounded by Thomas Potts corner - line of Weaver. No. 2 to Joel Jackson and Nancy his wife, late Nancy Head, 62 1/2 ac., Bounded at Benjamin Head's corner, stone wall near a branch. No. 3 to Zachariah Head 47 1/2 acres, Bounded by corner to Jackson & wife. No 4 to Reuben Burton and wife, late Head (name is not entered) 63 acres. Bounded corner to Zachariah Head. Lot No 5 to James Head 62 acres. Bounded by corner of Reuben Burton & wife. Lot No 6 to Jesse Oglesby and his children 67 1/2 acres. Bounded corner to James Head, Jackson's line, corner James Head. Lot No 7 to John Head 67 1/2 acres bounded corner to Jesse Oglesby and children, corner to Benjamin Head in Weavers line. Slaves allotted: Simon, wife and child to Zachary Head; Abraham & Lucy to Benjamin Head; Joseph & Lewis to Reuben Burton and wife Polly, Joannah and Harrison to John Head; Jan, Daniel, Bethany & Judy to Jesse Oglesby and children; Martin and Edy to Joel Jackson and wife; Lotta, Eliza and child to James Head. Commrs. William Taylor, Elijah Yager, Richard Oglesby. There is a drawing of the land in this division.

14 August 1826: John Head: To Patrick H. Blankenship for $47.50, a tract on waters of Curry's Fork. Beg. at a 1,000 survey patented in name of Hite & Bowman, east side of road from Westport to Shelbyville. Signed John Head

OLDHAM CO DEED BOOK B 1829-1832

No Date-1829: Thomas Lee and Mary J. his wife of Middletown: To Benjamin Head of Middletown, for $150, three lots No. 118, 119, 120 in Westport, cont., 1/2 acre each. Wits. Abijah C. Abernathy, James M. Head. Sig. Thos Lee, Mary Jane Lee. Recorded in Jefferson County, Mary Jane Lee relinquished dower.

13 June 1829: Reuben Burton and Mary his wife of Ralls County, Missouri: As representatives & heirs of Hadley Head, decd of Henry county, now Oldham, appointed Reese Davis as attorney in fact to collect any lands, monies, goods, chattels & rights of inheritance due us from the estate of Hadley Head. Sig. Reuben Burton Mary Burton. Ralls county, Missouri: Sworn before John Burton, J. P. Jacob Whitenburg, J. P. County Clerk, Chas Glasscock, town of New London.

25 July 1829: Reuben Burton and Mary his wife: To James Head for $126, 63 acres on waters of Heads fork, part of the plantation belonging to Hadley Head, and falling to the share of sd Burton & Mary his wife. Beg. corner to Zachariah Head, small drain in Powells old line, corner to James Head. Wits. Jefferson H Woodsmall, John Boulware. Sig. Reuben Burton, Mary Burton, by Reese Davis, Attny.

8 March 1830: John Head: To Patrick H Blankenship for $300, a tract on waters of Curry's fork 67 1/2 acres, being lot #7 assigned by commrs under an order from Oldham county court on a division of lands between the heirs of Hadley Head, dec. Beg. corner of Jesse Oglesby & children, corner to Benjamin Head in Weaver's line.

8 March 1830: Patrick H Blankenship: To John Head for $300, a tract on Curry's fork. Beg. corner of 1,000 acre survey patented in name of Hite & Bowman, on east side of road from Westport to Shelbyville. (acres not given) Sig. Patrick H Blankenship

15 March 1831: John Head: To William P Rodman for $14.25, all the right, title & interest which he has in right of his former wife, Nancy Head who was Nancy Rodman and one of the heirs of Thomas Rodman, decd. Nancy Head is now deceased, land is on Floydsfork, being the part of the tract of land of which Thomas Rodman, decd., the ancestor of sd Nancy, possessed at his death. Land adjoins the land of John Brown, Thomas Carr, Isham Wilhite, James Asher & is part of a 4,000 acre tract pat. to the heirs of Edward Taylor decd. Sig. John Head

20 March 1832: Jefferson H Woodsmall & Sally his wife: To Zachariah Head for $1,100, 110 acres, part of Edmund Taylors 4,000 acre survey on waters of Floydsfork. Beg corner to Benjamin Wilhoite, corner to Findley & Follard, Sig. Jefferson H Woodsmall, Sally Woodsmall. [note: in the abstract prior to this one dated 10 March 1832, Jefferson Woodsmall had just purchased from William Taylor of Point Canpre, state of Louisiana, 110 acres for $400. The description of the land is the same as above sold to Zachariah Head. ]

23 May 1831: John Head: To Moses M. Risk and Joseph Gresham for $250, on waters of Currys fork, 20 acres. Beg at Head and Anderson's corner on Woodsmall's line. John Head & wife Lucy hereby sell sd tract to sd Risk. Sig. John Head, Lucy (X) Head.

Oldham County, KY Deed Book C 1832-1836

5 Feb 1833: Charles P. Head & Anne his wife: James Sage & Sarah his wife, Rebecca Jett & Fanny Jett: To Butler Stonestreet for $457, 128 acres. Our individed four sevenths of a tract of land on Floyds Fork, it being the whole of the interest of the parties of the 1st part, with a reservation of 30 feet square, including the burial ground of Presley Jett, deceased. This is on Currys Fork of Floyds Fork. No boundaries given except trees, rocks, creek. Sig. Charles P Head, Ann Head, Rebecca (X) Jett, Fanny (X) Jett, James Sage, Sarah (X) Sage. [Note: Charles P Head married Ann Jett, father Presley, 3-9-1819 in Jefferson Co. James Sage Married Sarah 4-6-1830 in Oldham Co]

1833 [no date] Doct. John Willett, Edward M Taylor, John Stevens, James Head, Benjamin Coons, William P Rodman and William Wells, Trustees of the town of Lagrange: To Francis S Wells for $116, Lot #45 in town of Lagrange. 6 July 1833: Oliver P Head & Nancy his wife: To James Blankey & John C Blakey for $275 a lot in FLoydsburg. Beg at stone in rear of lot on south side of Main St Including the spring, to a stone in line of Widow M Boulware, 1 1/2 acres. Sig. Oliver T Head, Nancy (X) Head. Wit. James F Wilson.

27 December 1834: John Ballard & Mahala his wife & Jane Dejarnett: To Addison M Ballard of Henry Co., for $130, 100 acres corner Isaac Hit, John Bowman & Co., cor Wm Wells, Bland Ballards line, it being the same tract mortgaged by Elias Dejarnett in his lifetime to Wm Stephenson, upon the forclosure of sd mortgage sd John Ballard became purchaser, land was deeded to him by George Armstrong as commr. Jane Dejarnett as widow of sd Elias Dejarnett is entitled to her dower interest wherefore for $10 doth join in the deed. Sig. Deed Book 14 Oldham Co. Kentucky

 pg46-47:Head to Head Deed

This Indenture made and entered into this 12th day of March 1867 by William B Head of the County of Oldham and State of Kentucky of the first part and L W Head of the County and State aforesaid of the second part. Witnessed : That eh said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty Dollars cash in hand paid the second when of is hereby acknowledged, hath this day herein sold and connived here by this presents, doth grant bargain sell and convey with the said party of the second part his heirs & assigns the following described property to wit. One Bay and One Sorrell mare, fourteen stock hens and Two horse wagon and harness. To have and to hold the above describer property of the first part covenants the agreed to warrant and defend the title.

 To said described property with the said party of the second part his heirs, The condition of the forgoing conveyance is such that where as the said William B Head has this day executed his promissory note to the said L. W. Head for the Sum of Eighty Dollars, being even date herewith and made due and payable One day after date. Now if the said William B Head or any one for him shall well and truly payoff and discharge said note when then the same shall become due then the conveyance to be null and void otherwise to remain in full force and evident.

 In testimony where of the said William B Head has hereunto set his hand the day and year first above mentioned.

Note in margin: This note mentioned in the forgoing and of mortgage have in been duly paid and discharged. I hereby release said mortgage and pronounce it null and void. Witness my hand this 8th day of November 1868.
