CALVIN FLOYD and LEVI DRURY LONG, brothers and sons of EMANUEL AND LUCINDA TEMPERANCE LAWRENCE LONG.

In search of a better life, they left Independence, Grayson County Virginia and headed WEST in 1894. Calvin and his family went to Mullen, Cherry Co., Nebraska and Levi took his family to Belton, Cass Co., Missouri.

"This photograph was taken in front of the original sod house on the left, with the addition on the right. The Long Ranch was 30 miles north and slightly to the east of Mullen Nebraska. It took a whole day to go the 30 miles by horse and buggy. The sons homesteaded next to the original ranch raising corn, squash, potatoes, onions, rhubarb, horseradish and beans, in additon to the cattle. The cattle were Herefords, white face cattle that they shipped on the train to Omaha to sell. They would have a cattle drive to take them to the train before the invention of the truck and car."

Emma Long Malcom Zelgar

Daughter of Levi Drury and Elizabeth Pugh Long.

Emma, my great grandmother, passed away before I was born. My Dad, who is still living, has told me many things about her. As others have also said, "She was a MOST LOVED woman."
