GRATITUDE & RECOGNITION

All material is copyrighted 2002-2005 Henry H. George

I have been interested in my family's genealogy since I was a child. I had the brief information my Mother and Father had, which was in our Family Bible, but nothing more. As a teenager when my Mother and the relatives gathered and talked about this or that cousin, 2nd cousin or 3rd cousin, twice removed, my eyes and brain started to glaze over. Something stuck because I remember some of the names. It wasn't until I got a computer in March 2000 that I began the search in earnest. I could not have gotten this far without the help, direction and information from a lot of people.

I want to acknowledge these people and thank them. I hope I don't forget anyone, but I was born in 1940, had a stroke in 1994, suffer from "Oldtimers Disease" and CRS. If I have forgotten you, please don't be bashful...let me know. Since all help is equally important, my list will be in alphabatical order. All of these people are equally important to me.

AYERS, BILL: I have never met Cousin Bill, but feel as if I know him. I have talked with him several times on the phone, and by e-mail. I "met" him about three weeks ago, around 1 Oct 2002. At that time I asked him for permission to post his Mother's notes on my web site, and he agreed. I want to acknowledge and thank Cousin Bill for saving the important work of his Mother, and for allowing me the privilege of transcribing the notes and posting them here.

AYERS, CHRISTINE: Cousin Christine was born in 1904, died in 1995 and lived most of her life in Critz, Patrick County, VA. During her life she helped many people in their search for their roots. Through The Daughters Of The American Revolution (DAR), Christine furthered the written history of our country, as well as the recognition of The Critz and other families, and their role in helping to build this nation. She gave me "pictures" of my forefathers that have helped me know them better.

BLEVINS, NANCY: Nancy has been a great help to me in my eternal search for my George Ancesters and keeping my on the right path.

CHRISTIANSEN, BECKY and LARRY: I first "met" Becky when I wrote seeking permission to include some of her information on Archelaus Hughes in my family tree. She mentioned that she and her husband Larry were writing a narrative on the Hughes Family. After several discussions we all agreed my site would be perfect for it and I was granted permission to post it. I am honored to have this work on my site.

CLARK, LINDA: Linda has helped me in my search for my Pace family.

COOPER, PHILIP: My dear First Cousin Philip has told me a lot about my Father. My Dad died when I was nine years old, and I did not know a lot of things about him. Philip helped me know my Dad better, and that is special just as Philip is.

COX, KATHY:Kathy has been a help with the Mississippi CRITZ line and in particular, John White Critz.

DYAS, PEGGY: Peggy has helped me in my Critz research. I hope I helped her.

GELBER, ANNE: Anne is my Half Niece. She has helped me know a lot about my Dad and his first marriage. She has also given me alot of laughs thru our e-mail.

GEORGE, CRITZ H: My brother, Critz, has remained a big booster to me, as well as a sounding board for a lot of things in life. Other than my sons, he and his family are the closest family I have and I treasure them.

GEORGE, DAVID RICHARD: On April 14, 1967, the most wonderful thing happened in my life. At 8lbs., 3.5 Oz and 20.75 inches Rick entered this world and my life. He is the one who made me a father. He is part of the reason why I work on our family history. I have so many pictures and memories in my mind. Words fail me as I try to express what I feel in my heart for him. Rick and his brother Ryan have been the brightest lights in my life.

GEORGE, EVELYN Three words sum up my Mother: Love, devotion and sacrifice. After my Father died, she was the one who kept the family together, and did so by doing without, so that my brother and I did not have to. I wish I had asked more questions about the family and who are the people in all of these pictures.

GEORGE, JOHN RYAN: Ryan is the brother that Rick wanted for over three years. He taught me how to operate a computer and listened to my search triumphs, when I had them. When I had my stroke, and then faced two years of not knowing how long I would live, he kept his brother, who was in England, informed, and was my rock. He has agreed to continue this work in the future.

GEORGE, LEWIS: Lewis and I met and are working thru the George DNA Project.

GEORGE, MONTE: Monte is the project coordinator for the George DNA Project. He has a large job to do, and I appreciate his taking it on.

GEORGE, WESLEY CRITZ: Wesley is my uncle. Uncle Critz was a Doctor and a professor at UNC and was head of the Department of Anatomy. He was deeply involved in genetics. Uncle Critz did a lot of work on the family history. I am indebted to him for giving me the base to work from.

GEORGE, WILLIAM F.: This is my Dad. I have loved him all of my life and missed him for most of it. His death when I was nine, was a great loss. I have learned much about him in the past two years, thanks to the help of alot of cousins and half nieces.

GRANT, MARVIN (MARTY): Marty has been a great help to me on my George research. When I found the information I had in the Family Bible on the George line was wrong, Marty came to the rescue and got me on the right trail. Marty is a treasure and has a wonderful site.

HAMILTON, JUDY: Judy is my former sister-In-Law and my friend. She has been invaluable to me in my work on the Thomas Line, which is my sons mother's side of the family. She is also a true friend.

HORTON, ALBERT G: Uncle Albert, born in 1890, died in 1984, gave me alot of information on the Horton line before he passed away.

HOY, CAMILLA: My Cousin Camilla has been a help to me for years. She has guided me thru the George and Critz families, and started me on the Christine Critz Ayers notes.

HOYLE, DAN: I had practically no information on my mother's side of the family. I found Cousin Dan, who sent me the majority of what I now have on the Horton, Pace, Scarborough and others on that side of my family. He also passed on to me the Sylvester V. Horton Family Bible.

HOYLE, JIM: Cousin Jim told me about Dan, and the wealth of information he had. Jim also made available to me, information on the Hortons.

McCLURE, DONNA: Donna is my half niece and has been a big help in giving me information on my father and his first marriage.

McINGVALE, JERRIE: Jerrie has been a great help to me in many ways. First, she sent me the descendants of Peter Critz which Cousin Christine Ayers did not have for her notes. The most important thing she has done for me personally is to find my Father in the 1920 census, living on the Quantico Reservation in the Marine Corps. This is a giant step to getting proof of his military service.

MILLER, CLOVIS: His John Miller and My Hamon Critz appear, quite often together, in various papers in the history of Patrick County and it is thought by many that they both came from Germany at the same time. Clovis has kindly offered some of his material for use on my site. When I get it on, it will be so noted.

PACE, GORDON: Gordon, thru the Pace List, has been very helpful to me by keeping me focused and correcting my mistakes.

PEDLOW, FRANDA: Franda is another half niece That has been a big help to me with information on my father. At some point I am going to do a page on my father and I couldn't do it without the help of Franda and others.

RUFFIN, ELIZABETH: Elizabeth appeared one day in my E-mail with a question on the HUGHES line. I think she has helped me more than I have helped her. Elizabeth lives in the UK, in the central part of England. She has been a tremendous help to me on my HUGHES family line.

SWEENY, TOM: I received a e-mail one day from Tom, asking me to take part in the George DNA Project. We have been in touch on a regular basis since that time.

TUDOR, BYNUM: What to say about Bynum! He is a cuz, he is a friend, my morale builder and a great help on the McFarland, Dalton, Dandridge, Lee, Frans, Carter and Tudor lines, as they tie in to the Critz line.

WILSON, CYNTHIA A.: I found Cousin Cynthia thru Cousin Bill Ayers. Her GG Grandmother, Polly Critz was a slave owned by my GG Grandfather, Gabriel Critz. This line of Critz is a very important genealogical find to me, and I want to thank Cousin Cynthia for her help.
