SANDRA KAY THOMAS GEORGE

Sandra Kay Thomas George, 61, of Asheville, died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 9, 2005.

Mrs. George was born in Greensboro on Sept. 28, 1943, to Henrietta P. Thomas and the late John Alexander Thomas.

She was a graduate of Hickory High School and attended Appalachian State University. Kay worked for more than 30 years as a paralegal for various law firms in the Asheville area. She was active in helping adopted children, who are now adults, reunite with their natural birth parents.

She is survived by her mother, Henrietta Thomas of Hickory; her sons, David Richard George of Carrollton, Va., and John Ryan George of Morganton; her daughter-in-law, Beverly George of Carrollton, Va.; her two grandchildren, Darius and Corrin of Carrollton, Va; her sisters, Harriet Anne Abernethy and her husband, Tommy, of Hilton Head, S.C., and Judy Hamilton and her husband, Gary, of Blue Mound, Kan.; her brother, John Thomas and his wife, Karen, of Hilton Head, S.C.; and her many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Kay's life was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home. The family received friends following the service.

Kay was much loved by her family and will be sadly missed. The family requests donations be sent to the Haw Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 800 New Haw Creek Road, Asheville, N.C. 28805, or Meals on Wheels, 146 Victoria Road, Asheville, N.C. 28801.
