Obituary

Virginia Lois Spears Shockey, 82, of Sandyville, WV, departed this life on January 15, 2005, after an extended illness.

She was born on May 13, 1922, in Jackson County, WV, daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Ruby Mae Walter Spears. She was a homemaker, and has been a member of the Independence United Methodist Church for many years, and was active in the Ladies Aide Society, serving in different offices. Besides being a loving housewife and mother, she assisted her husband, Harley, in the family business, Shockey's Service and Supply for many years.

Surviving are 3 sons, Lesley Shockey and his wife Naomi, Sandyville; David Shockey and his wife Glenda, Sandyville; and Gene Shockey and his wife Rhonda, Ravenswood; brother, Vairl C. "Jack" Spears and his wife Louella, Sandyville; 4 grandsons, Michael Shockey, Keith Shockey, Charles Shockey, and Steven Shockey; 4 granddaughters, Teresa Kessell, Kimberly Crist, Lois Clendenin, and Melissa Smith; 7 great grandsons, and 5 great granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley; daughter, Patricia; and sisters, Emma Kibble and Vera Murray.

Services were held 1 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at the Roush Funeral Home with the Reverend Steven Rhoades officiating. Visitation was Tuesday from 4 PM to 8:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial followed in the Independence Cemetery, Sandyville.
