Obituary Admiral
Dewey Shockey, Sr., 83, of Madisonville, and formerly of Murfreesboro,
died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his home.
A native of Hazel Green, KY and a
resident of McMinn County since 1972, he was a son of the late Elias E.
and Alvie Dixie Manning Shockey and was preceded in death by one brother,
Elwood Shockey; and two sisters, Marie Mayabb and Orene Cecil. He was a
member of Franklin Road Baptist Church in Murfreesboro and was a veteran
of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 58
years, Hazel Jordan Shockey of Madisonville; three daughters and
sons-in-law, Debra June and Steven Brown of Nashville, Dixie Pearl and
Franklin Boggess of Athens, and Donna Cecile and Vernon Baker Jr. of
Riceville; four sons and daughters-in-law, Admiral Dewey "A.D." and Thelma
Shockey Jr. and George Dean and Carolyn Shockey, all of Murfreesboro,
Danny Walter and Brenda Shockey of Englewood, and Alan Dale and Almeda
Shockey of Chattanooga; one sister, Dixie and Rose Cecil of Hazel Green,
KY; 27 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one special friend, Crystal
Holder; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m.
Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev.
Hershal Malone officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons,
Danny Walter Shockey Jr., Robert Russell Stem, Dennis Wayne Shockey, Alan
Dale Shockey Jr., George Sydney Shockey, Adam Dewey Boggess and Jason
Glenn Baker.
The family will receive friends
from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Athens is in charge of arrangements.
