Dies in Crash

Mrs. Clara Roach, 34, of 2101 W. Jefferson St., was killed instantly Tuesday in the collision of two trucks near Frostproff, Fla. Her husband, Carl, 35, who was driving the truck in which Mrs. Roach was riding, suffered a broken arm and possible internal injuries in the crash. He reportedly is being treated in a hospital at Lakeville, Fla. The couple were on a business trip in Florida at the time of the accident, relatives said.

Florida Truck Crash Fatal to Local Woman, 34

Mrs. Clara Roach, 34, of 2101 W. Jefferson St., was killed instantly in the collision of two trucks near Frostproof, Fla., Tuesday.

Her husband, Carl, 35, a local coal dealer, suffered a broken arm and possible internal injuries, according to the Florida State Highway Patrol.

Also injured was Willie Lee Meeks of Wallace, N. C., driver of the other truck, who suffered a broken shoulder.

Mr. and Mrs. Roach reportedly were on a business trip in Florida at the time of the crash.

Investigating officers reported that the woman was thrown from the light truck in which she was riding under the wheels of a heavy tractor-trailer outfit driven by Meeks.

Mrs. Roach was born in Springfield April 27, 1917, and had resided here all her life. She attended Springfield public schools.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Carol Ann; a step-son, Carl; her father, Cleveland Tilton; one sister, Mrs. Josephine Copes; one brother, Ernest Tilton; all of Springfield; and her mother, Marie Morrow of Dayton.

Mr. Roach reportedly was taken to a Lakeville, Fla., hospital for treatment of his injuries.

I'm not really sure which newspaper or what exact date this was... got the obituary from my Grandma (Wanda) and it was in the bible she has. So there isn't a date on it. Clara Roach was my Grand-Uncle's second wife. His first wife was Lena Shockey my Great-Aunt.
