The History of The FAZEKAS Name

First, it's not Greek, it's Hungarian.

Second, it's pronounced like it's spelled.

"FA-ZE-KAS"

The name "FAZEKAS" is a very common Hungarian Surname. While researching this project, many definitions of the name were uncovered, some reaching back to medieval times , while other explanations led one to believe that a religious meaning could be adopted. However, only one meaning of the name has stood the test of time and only this interpretation has been confirmed through the Hungarian Dictionary and my relatives in Hungary.

This name, Fazekas, means "pottery" or "potttery-maker". My youngest son, Norman, as if to certify this statement, had his picture taken in a museum viewing a display captioned (Pottery Shop) in Budapest in 1999. My cousin Zsolt Fazekas, a resident of Hungary stated, "pure and simple" Fazekas means pottery or pottery-maker. So that's the meaning and history of the Fazekas Name.
