Who, what and where?
There are volumes of information available
online, and it will be a good beginning for many novice
researchers. Well-cited sources and substantiated records are
less common; all relationships and events should be verified with
primary sources. That said, I've enjoyed researching my family by
starting out with these on-line databases, contributed records,
mailing lists and searches. I've found enough information to lure
me into research rooms and stacks to take a first-hand look at
the paper records, and learn more about the lives of my family
members.
