Wallace
Frederick Joseph Wallace was my great-great-grandfather , but it was in his house
that my grandmother grew up in Meriden. Frederick Joseph was one of four sons born to Benjamin Wallace (6 Mar 1833-6 Nov 1918) and Elizabeth J Eastman (25 Sep 1835-19 Apr 1866) in Wallace Hill, near Townsend, Massachusetts.

Born 9 Sep 1858, Frederick Joseph migrated to New Haven County, Connecticut in 1876. He first lived in Cheshire at 101 Hobart Street. He married Carrie Emogene Brooks and they had five children:

Wheeler Wallace (bef 1889-died in childhood)
Edward Wallace (bef 1889-died in childhood)
Carrie Wallace (bef 1889-died in childhood)
Baby Wallace (bef 1889-died in childhood)
Harriet Belle Wallace (12 Dec 1889-1 Apr 1984)

The family home first was 127 Wilcox Ave. and later 34 Kensington in Meriden.

By 1890, Frederick Joseph was a partner in Patten and Wallace, a retail provision business. He served as the elected president of the Retail Butcher's Association. He also worked as a traveling salesman for Landers, Frary, & Clark and for Chaplin Manufacturing on Britannia Street. After his retirement, he grew restless and opened a hardware store
at 443 Colony Street.

Frederick Joseph died from a heart attack on Dec 7, 1933 and is buried with his wife and children in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden..
