Joseph Maurer was born 6 September 1862 in Delaware but grew up in Philadelphia. His father was a shoemaker Joseph Maurer who immigrated in steerage on the ship Juno on July 1, 1858, having sailed from Bremen, Germany. His home was Margoldsheim, Muensingen, Germany. Joseph married Elizabeth Wandele and their oldest daughter was Genavive.

Their first son John and our ancestor Joseph were baptised in Wilmington, Delaware in 1860 and 1862 respectively. The family lived first in Red Lion and then in New Castle, arriving in Philadelphia sometime after 1870.

About 1887, Joseph Jr. married Frances E <Unknown> (abt 1860 in France-deceased).

Francis T. Maurer was born 12 Oct 1889 in Pennsylvania, the second of 9 children, only 8 of whom survived childhood. She is living with her parents in 1900 at 4345 Main St. in Manayunk in Philadelphia.

She married Ira H. Auch and they had 8 children. Francis died sometime after 1930 in Manayunk when her son James was still a teenager.
