Gooding
- Alford Gooding was born abt. 1800 in Virginia.
By 1850, he has his children living with him in the Atlanta
district of DeKalb County, Georgia. His oldest daughter Mary
Angelina married Samuel White and three sons: Charles (b. abt. 1843), George (b. abt. 1849), and William Henry (WH) who was born on June 10, 1845 in Putnam County,Georgia. WH later escaped his mother's watchful eye and enlisted in Calhoun, Georgia on 31 Mar 1864, serving through October in the Confederate Army in Company B, Cavalry, in Cobb's Legion, Georgia Volunteers. He served without a horse until July 15, 1864 and continued to serve without pay, being owed a $50 bounty.
WH married Joicey Goodwin of DeKalb County in
1872, and they raised their family, first in Anniston,Calhoun
County, Alabama, and later in Atlanta, Georgia. He died on August
27, 1908 from tuberculosis.
