Carl SCHULZ - Altar at Boyd Church

ALTAR AT ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH IN BOYD, IOWA "Very little detailed information is known about the altar or the staue of Christ which adorns the center area of the altar. What can be said is that the wooden altar was built by Carl Schulz, a wood craftsman. Carl was the grandfather of Mina Schuchhardt and Reinhart Drewelow, who are still living as of the writing of this conregational history. The exact cost is unknown, but the work has been admired for years and it has been the center of focus for the worship life of the congregation. The German words which are inscribed in the base of the altar (see adjoining picture) have been a dominant theme throughout the life and ministry of the Boyd congregation constantly pointing the congregation to trust in God who gives life, itself, and the things that make existence meaningful.

Note : This will soon become a link, once I have transcribed the book. It contains many valuable references to our family and others who were members of the church. |
