The Dickey Family

is pleased to announce the

Year 2001 Dickey Family Reunion

Purpose

Our family reunions are held for the descendants of John Priest Dickey and Mertie Bell Dickey and all our "cousins" no matter how distant. Our interest is in the love of all families and in particular for our family. Reunions give us the opportunity to gather together to build bonds of caring and sharing that we may all be enriched through our associations. Our purpose is also to research and preserve our continuing family history for those now living and all those that follow. Although our concentration is on the ancestors and descendants of John Priest Dickey and Mertie Bell Newcomer we are interested in all of our cousins and if you are connected through earlier generations, or think that you might be, we want to hear from you.

History

The Dickey Family Reunion is a gathering of Dickey descendants who are interested in their ancestry and in the importance of family. An important part of the reunion is sharing the history of our progenitors whose lives made our lives possible and sharing our lives with one another. As their chldren grew up and started families of their own Mertie Bell Newcomer and John Priest Dickey would gathered their extended family around them at Christmas time for a reunion. For many years it was the Sunday before Christmas. In our family we referred to it as the "Dickey Christmas." I have many fond memories of our gatherings and the last three were at our home the "Sunday before Christmas" of 1991, 1992, and 1993. What do you remember? Share your memories, e-mail them to me so we can post them on this Web site. In the future there will be pictures posted here of past reunions. It would be great to have some stories, too.

Updates... News

Family Newsletter: We would like your feed back concerning a quarterly newsletter, Dickey Doings. The mission would be to strengthen family ties with our own immediate families and our extended family. The goal would be to include: (1) family news such as births, marriages, deaths, promotions, retirements, graduations, triumphs, getting to know you articles, family stories... you get the general idea; (2) the sharing of our family history through coordinating research findings and research goals, and the publishing of articles about our ancestors; (3) ideas and tips regarding preserving our family traditions and history today; and (4) promotion of our family reunions and get togethers. The newsletter would be posted on this Web site as well as e-mailed to our mailing list at OneList. Those without an e-mail address it could receive it through the USPO, which would probably invove a small cost to cover expenses. If you would be interested, please e-mail me, Janis Miller.

2000 Reunion:There has been some talk of a family reunion in January or February because of a grant geing given at LaVerne College. As soon as I am able to pin down more definite information on this I will post it here. If any of you know more about this please contact me at my e-mail address, janismiller@yahoo.com, so I can let everyone else know what is going on. Thank you.
