MILK & BANANAS
(from Mother)
1 banana
2 tsp. white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Milk
Peel and quarter banana lengthwise, then slice into glass. Add sugar and vanilla. Fill glass with milk. Serve cold.

A note from Vickie: "My mother use to make this for me when I was little, as a special treat. Other variations were made with strawberries or fresh peaches. It always tasted great on a hot day."

ORANGE JULIUS
(from Vickie)

1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract

HOT CHOCOLATE
(from Mother)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup hot water
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
4 cups milk
Dash salt
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
Mix cocoa, sugar, water and salt in a saucepan. Over medium heat, stir constantly until mixture boils. Cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute. Stir in the milk and heat, but do not boil. Remove from heat and add vanilla; blend well. Top with miniature marshmallows, if desired.

A note from Vickie: "Mother use to occasionally make this with malted milk powder added. Try it!"

OLD-FASHIONED SODA
(from Vickie)
3 oz. flavored syrup
10 oz. seltzer water
Ice
Mix 3 oz. of syrup to 10 oz. of seltzer water, stir, and you're done. Add ice if desired.

A note from Vickie: "Original fountain sodas, or phosphates, were a mixture of carbonated water and flavored syrups. The old-fashioned flavor syrups (other than Hershey's Chocolate and Strawberry) are hard to find, but you can substitute the type of syrup used for ice cream topping or for mixing into coffee drinks, if you wish."

MALTED MILKSHAKE

1/4 cup chocolate syrup
2 lg. scoops chocolate ice cream
1/4 cup cold milk
Combine all ingredients in a blender or milk shake machine. Blend at medium speed for 2 minutes and pour into a tall glass.

A note from Vickie: "For other flavors, substitute syrups and use vanilla or other flavored ice creams. (Example: caramel syrup with vanilla ice cream; strawberry syrup with strawberry ice cream.)"
