OBITUARIES

Drew Advance Oct. 21, 1937:
Mr. J.V. Tucker, age 70 died at his home 10 miles west of Pickens, September 23, 1937, after a lingering illness of several weeks. As the night was rapidly passing into dawn he closed his eyes and slept his sweet life away. Our loss is heaven's gain. We mourn, we grieve, we cannot do otherwise. It is a pleasant thought in the midst of all our sorrows to know that we have the blessed home our Savior has prepared for us, and soon we will each go to be with him never to be separated, where there will be no more sorrows, or tears nor pain. He is survived by his wife, seven sons, Tay of Merklin, Texas, John of Tillar, Josh of El Centro, Calif., Frank of Hamlin, Texas, Vance of Florence, Russell and Halley Varnell at home; five daughters, Mrs. Ethel Hayes of Crossett, Mrs. Helen Eastham and Mrs. Montry Carter of near Pickens, Misses Octavia and Rachel at home; fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Roy of Tillar at Mt. Tabor Church Sunday, Sept. 27. Interment was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

"We stood beside him, when suffering he lay,
And struggled with disease, 'till he breathed his life away.
No rose was on his cheek, No sparkle in his eyes,
Though it grieved our hearts, for the darling to die.
A smile of beauty was on his face so fair,
It seemed as if an Angel sweetly slumbered there."
