(1st) Obituary For Leodore J. Langevin

WWII veteran PUTNAM - Leodore "Leo" Langevin,90, of Ella Grasso Gardens, 65 Ballou st. died Dec. 19 2000, at Day Kimball Hospital after an illness. He was born in Southbridge, Mass., May 11, 1910, a son of Benjamin and Octavie (Davignon) Langevin and spent his early years living in Southbridge, later moving to Mechanicsville. Mr. Langevin was 32 years old when he enlisted in military service in 1942. He served with Company G 325th Glider Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. While serving in the Army in Europe, he also served as a bands man, playing the French horn. He participated in the battles of Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes. In May 1945 he was wounded in action and later recieved th Purple Heart. He also recieved the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Belgian Fouragier and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from military service in December 1945 with the last rank of private first class. Mr. Langevin enjoyed making a very large garden each summer. The Funeral Mass was Dec. 22, 2000, at St. Joseph Church,North Grosvenordale, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors.

"Leodore Langevin (1910-2000) Telegram & Gazette Thursday, December 21, 2000 Leodore J. Langevin, 90 PUTNAM-- Leodore �Leo� J. Langevin, 90, of 65 Ballou St., a retired painter and a veteran of World War II, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Day Kimball Hospital, after an illness. He leaves a son, Milton Langevin of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Gertrude Watson of Bristol, Conn.; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Wilfred, Normand and Rudolph Langevin, predeceased him. He was born in Southbridge, son of Benjamin and Octavie (Davignon) Langevin, and lived in the Mechanicsville section of Thompson and Stafford Springs before moving to Putnam 25 years ago. He also lived in Ashford for several years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having enlisted at the age of 32. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Mr Langevin was a mill hand at the former Unca Finishing Co., Mechanicsville, for many years. After a flood in 1955 led to its closing, he became a self-employed painter. He was also a night clerk at the Ashford Motel for several years. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church, West Thompson, and a member of Post 1523, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Post 67 American Legion, North Grosvenordale. He was a life member of Valley Springs Sportsmens' Club, North Grosvenordale. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., North Grosvenordale. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours are 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, in Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., North Grosvenordale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any charity in care of the funeral home.".
