Mr. Hayes was born in England and came to Utah when he was about 17
years old with his father and sister, Mrs. Richard Ashdown; his mother
having died before they left their native land. He was the youngest of
a family of fifteen children nearly all of whom remained in England.
Mr. Hayes was about 62 years 'old His father was the late Charles
Hayes, who had been a brick manufacturer in England, All his life and
his father before him.
On arriving in Utah, the fam�ily located in Bountiful where the deceased
had lived ever since.
The father established a brick�yard here and the deceased worked with
his father up to the liter's death and has followed hue of work more or
less all his life, although of late years he did considerable
bricklaying. They were about the first brick makers in Bountiful, and
many of the old buildings that still remain in the south end of the
county contain brick made by them.
He married Bessie Lynham, several children being born to them, but his
wife and all the children but one daughter who lives in Ogden, passed
away. Later he remarried Sarah Eckwright, five children being born to
them, three of whom-two sons and a daughter-together with his wife,
surviving him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Bountiful Second
ward meeting house. There was a large attendance and many beautiful
floral offerings. The speakers were Elders, E.L. Hanson, James Neville,
Nephi Giles, Cyrus Page, C. R. Mabey, B. C. Holbrook and Bishop
Stringham. Interment was in the Bountiful cemetery.

During the coldest weather, she had been stopping with her
son, Roy and family in Salt Lake, daughter, Mrs. Arnold
Steed in Farmington and with Mrs. Parkin at whose home
she died.
Mrs. Hayes was born in Oldham England and on the 15th of
this coming July would have been 78 years old. She- was a
daughter of George and Harriet Greaves.
She and her two children, George and Anna Ackroid, who were
small then, emigrated to Utah in 1887. Her husband did not
join the church so he did not accompany them here. They
located in Bountiful where she has lived since.
Some time after her arrival here she was married to Elijah
Hayes who passed away in 1916.
She was an active member of tho church having served in the
Relief society for many years and for several years had a
perfect record for attendance at Sunday school.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Annie Parkin of South
Bountiful and Mrs. Arnold Steed of Farmfnpton, two sons,
Roy Hayes, Salt Lake and Willard Hayes of Bountiful; also
20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p. m. in the
Bountiful Second ward chapel, Bishop James E. Burns in
charge. The speakers were, Arthur Jolliff, Bishop S. C.
Iloward, Geo. E. Garrett and Bishop Burns. William Naylor
offered the opening prayer, B. C. Holbrook, tho benediction
and Kelley Davis dedicated the grave. The choir
rendered, "Some Time W'll Understand," "Sister Thou Art
Mild and Lovely" and "I Know My Redeemer Lives" and Mrs.
Bertha Porter and daughter, Leone, sang a duet. There was a
good attendance, beautiful floral offerings and burial took
place in the Bountiful cemetery.
