Like many of you, I love to look at old family
photographs and wonder about the lives of these
"unknown" people who are related to me. I knew they were family but didn't
know much about them or how they were connected to my present day
descendents. My mother, who was most interested in the Crowell line,
had done some research years ago. One of the goals she had was
to find out when our Crowell family emigrated and from where. We
had been told that my great-grandfather came from England, but after
some research, I found that he was born in the United States as was
his father and his grandfather.
We also found my great-grandmother's application to the Mayflower
Society which was a great help in tracking down more ancestors. I
have spent much time confirming the information I found amongst the
letters and papers hidden in boxes of photographs. Of course, all
this research helped me find and confirm many of the relationships.
My grandfather also gave us a number of photographs
where he identified family members which also helped. Now the
photographs are much clearer and we have been able to identify even many
of the "unknowns".
At this point in time, my main goal is the same one my mother had: To
find the Crowell who first immigrated to the United States. Because of
this, I hereby dedicate this project to my mom, Dorothy
Crowell (nee Weiss), a loving, insightful, caring person, and I believe she was,
as one of her professors dubbed her, "the smartest woman in
southeastern Wisconsin."
If you can find a link on this website to someone in your family, it will be
an added accomplishment for me.
As all genealogists know...the search continues!
