From: Jerry Ferrin Subject: May 2004: Bowen_family_web_inquiry Dear Sir, Please advise me if you have any information on a C.C. Bowen who lived in Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, circa 1915. My surmisal is that he was a Confederate veteran, as a Confederate veteran I'm researching --- C.C. Pepperd - was receiving his Confederate pension checks in care of C.C. Bowen circa 1915 at a time when the only friends Pepperd had left appear to have been his fellow veterans. For the reference, see... http://www.rootsweb.com/~kscomanc/pepperd_pension.html Before me the undersigned authority this day personally appeared C C Pepperd to me well known who being duly sworn by me says that he has been drawing a Confederate Pension for several years, that at the time he applied for the said pension he was a resident of Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto County, Texas; that for the past three years he has been a resident of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas and has been receiving said pension at said place; that on the 25th day of May, 1915, the affiant left his home at Ft. Worth, Texas for the purpose of visiting relatives in Coldwater, Kansas and remained with said relatives until the 2nd day of August, 1915, when he returned to his home at Ft. Worth, Texas; that prior to his leaving home to visit in Kansas he signed and swore to his pension affidavit for the quarter ending May 31st, 1915 and had mailed the same to Autin, Texas with instructions to return the same to him at Ft. worth in the care of C.C. Bowen at said place, this being his usual and customary way of receiving his pension warrants; he further swears that he has forgotten the number of his pension certificate and has no means of ascertaining the same unless the same can be furnished by the Commissioner of Pensions at Austin, Texas; He further states that the pension which he was drawing was due for the quarter ending May 31st, 1915 when he left Texas to visit in Kansas as aforesaid; that his trip to Kansas was for the purpose of visiting his relatives only, and with no intention of losing or abandoning his residence in this state.
Thanks, Jerry Ferrin

Subject: thank you! Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 Hello there... This is kind of a strange scenario, but I'm writing to say thank you for leaving a post on your website for so long. My name is Emily Sears, maiden name Bowen. My penpal from many many years ago sent you an e-mail looking for me, in hopes that you would be able to help. Her name is Saskia, and she sent that e-mail to you in November 2000, requesting help in looking for Emily Bowen from Monroe, Michigan. My husband came across your site a couple of weeks ago and noticed this e-mail posting from Saskia, and sent her an e-mail right away letting her know that she needn't search for me any longer. It has been wonderful being in touch again with my dear friend from the Netherlands! Thank you so much for leaving that post on your site for 3 years, so that we were able to one day come across it! All the best- Original message : I received a request to help locate Emily Bowen from Monroe, Michigan if you can help, please do. From: "Saskia" <sas.bok@wanadoo.nl> Hi, I found your site and decided to write you. My name is Saskia and I am looking for my long lost penpal Emily Bowen, whom I have been writing with for 10 years and I would really like to get in contact with her again. I know a lot of information about her, like where she was born, where she went to school, even the address of her first job I have. Also I know she's married now to a guy named Bryan Sears, but I cannot find her anywhere on the net and I think I really need some help. I was hoping, since you're so much interested in the Bowen family, that you perhaps might want to try and help me find her. Emily was born in Monroe, Michigan where her father used to be a minister. Her last address was in Maryland, Parkville. I tried the whitepages and classmates but do not know where else to search. I myself live in Europe, The Netherlands, that doesnt make it any easier. Can you please, please help me? In advance thanks!, Saskia

From Pat Davis of San Antonio Texas Re : Clifton Bowen, Clifton Bowen jr., Samuel Bowen Ben, I've been hitting the proverbial stone wall. I have my ancestor,Clifton Bowen, Jr, the R.S. soldier, nailed in the copy of an indenture of his (Jr's) property--to his sons, wife, and son-in-law (in GA) Daniel Hendricks, in Georgia--and sale of that property. Clifton, Jr., was the son of Clifton, Sr., as identified or inferred from a document listing "Sr" and "Jr" as sitting on a court case in NC--and there I hit a brick wall. Supposedly, Clifton, Sr., was the son of Samuel (the Rehoboth Baptist minister, who was the son of Obadiah, who was the son of Richard the immigrant)--but I can't prove it. I hoped Samuel's will could prove--or disprove that Clifton, Sr., was his son. I don't know whether Samuel's will was from MA, NJ, or even where it was probated. All I have is the date identified as that it was "proven" 3-4-1728." One source, yours I believe, indicated that numerous NJ doccuments of that era had been destroyed. I've begun to wonder whether I can piece this together. (I'm trying for membership in the XVII Century Colonial Dames.) Samuel was born in the Rehoboth area, according to records I've found, but died in the Cohansey, NJ area. A will was attributed to Samuel (by a Georgia relative now deceased) that was supposedly dated 3-4-1728, with the indication that Elizabeth Wood Wheaton (a widow he married ca. 1684) wasn't mentioned in that will. (Obviously she had died). There was no supporting documentation, just the basic statement. I did find a site listing a house in NJ that had belonged to Jonathan Bowen, (a grandson of Samuel), as being on the historic register. That web site indicated that Samuel had died there. This moved Samuel from Massachusetts to New Jersey, with the group of Baptists who moved south. A Seventh Day Baptist Church history indicated the correct time frame for the move of the Baptist out of MA and to NJ, and named numerous Bowens in the history as members--Jonathan among them. It also mentioned Timothy Brooks, who married Hannah Bowen, as a minister of the church. It doesn't give any other relationships, and I can't find anything in NJ "look-ups" on deaths or marriages that far back, or indicating the siblings or burials. I'm NOT giving up--because about five different families list Clifton Bowen, Sr., as having married Elizabeth Harris, and his being the son of Samuel, I wonder if they could all be wrong.? (The Harris, Bacon, Bowen, and a couple of others have this connection indicated. However, I can't find any proof.) Thanks for listening! Info below added 12-01-03 There is a will on file in the New Jersey archives, dated 1728, listing the children of Rev. Samuel BOWEN. Among them was his son, CLEFTON (Clifton) Bowen, one of the Executors of his will, along with his brother, Elijah. This Clefton (Clifton) who married Elizabeth Harris, had a son, Clifton, Jr., who married Martha (no last name known.) They wound up in North Carolina--and Clifton, Sr. died there. There is a copy of an "indenture" listing the children and son-in-law, of Clifton, Jr., in the archives in Georgia. It refers to the disposal of his land in Georgia, several years after his death. (He reportedly was buried in Wilmington, NC--however I couldn't locate that data--but he died in Georgia.)

Howdy!, Sorry for the delay in responding. All the info I have on William F. Bowen is on the site. Did you see the listing that has William F. Bowen as serving with the Confederate Cavalry 6th Regiment, Texas Cavalry(Wharton, Stone's)? Maybe the Texas State Archives has info on him and his service with this unit.I do not recall if I had requested that info from them or not. Also if a pension was filed for, that could give more info. The only paper I have on him is the pay voucher that listed his birthplace, height etc.I will continue to search my records and if I find more I will let you know... please let me know if you find more info on William F. Bowen. there is also information on a Land Grant Issued to William F. Bowen, from the 1830's or early 1840's if my memory serves me well. Thanks,
From: sheree hutchinson To: bowen151@yahoo.com Subject: William F. Bowen Date: Fri, 21 Nov 2003 Hey there, I really want to thank you on behalf of my mother and her sisters for finding and sending this info my way. I have been busy myself with a ton of other research! Now with this info you have sent me, I can possibly make some headway in this search! Of course I will send you all that I find on this line! Your site is important and deserves all the info that I come across. I know my line of the Bowen's are connected to the McClure's and Wooten's
by marriage. We know that William F. Bowen married
a woman named Julia, they had a son named Arthur
Franklin Bowen who married Cora Maude McClure and they had the following
children: and Nora but we have no birth date for her. All these children where born in Erath Co Texas. Blanton was my grandfather. Anyways thanks again and I will let you know what I find as I find it!
Sent in by Lib Pitts of South Carolina. I am a descendant of the English Sea Capt. George Bowen who m. Mary Margaret
Farr (Mary For on marriage cert.) both died in Charleston; yellow fever.
The only surviving child, George, was taken in by Orsamus Allan Brown, a
good friend of the father, and took him to the West Indies to raise. Later
he returned and married Maria Tabitha Conant. They had a home in Laurens
Cty, SC, later in Mississippi, at one time plantations at both. A Bowen referred me here to look and I am enjoying reading the wonderful work each of you have done. There do not seem to be any Bowen books around here, although George Bowen, the son, has much in the Archives in Columbia, S.C. I have copies of some, but not all of his letters. I wonder if you have ever heard of my George. Perhaps he had a double name, but if so, I am not aware of it. George Bowen b. 12-9-1784 Charleston,S.C. d. Jan 09, 1859 "Millwood", Chickasaw Cty, Miss. Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2003 From: Janice Trumbell Subject: William F. Bowen Hello, I have been reading your web site all morning and it is amazing! I have hit a brick wall on my Bowen research. Here is the information that I have.
1870 Davis Co., Texas Census William F. Bowen age 26 Ga Julia O. age 22 Ga William age 1 Ga John L. age 22 Ga Susan age 20 Ga Sarah E. age 18 Ga
I suspect that John L., Susan and Sarah E. are William's siblings.
Julia Bowen age 29 AL widow Arthur age 5 TX Anna age 6M Tx
Civil War Pension Index for William Bowen
widow: Julia A. Bowen invalid: 1890 July 14 IL widow: 1917 Nov 30 IL
Marriage record per LDS W.F. Bowen married Julia Chester on 26 December 1871 Sunset Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Sunset, Montague, Texas . I have searched the Georgia 1850 census records and have not been able to locate the records and have not been able to find William in the 1860 census either. After reading your information on the site, I suspect that Thomas H. Bowen is the father of my William. This would explain the Civil War Pension having Illinois on it. By 1883, Julia Bowen married Nathan F. Marsh. Do you have any ideas on who my William's parents are? Would appreciate any help. Thanks.
