Questions Concerning this Group
Questions from Mike Hostetler host@gvtc.com
Of the 3 girls, we know three were alive when Maggie Bowen died, the problem is, 2 were listed as Mrs. ------ in the obituary and we don't know which is which. We may be able to back into it if I can locate marriage information in Corpus Christ on Rose who was apparently married in 1943 per the letter of J R Bowen.
Has any ever come up or tried to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate for ( David's grandfather) Green Bowen in Illinois?
I am still trying to find out the circumstances and the place of David Bowen's death.
It is apparently not in Corpus Christi as originally thought (note the obit for Maggie shows she would have moved there in 1940).
UPDATED INFORMATION added 8-15-2005
I was reviewing the information on the Bowen family website and have some addtional information to add and a correction to make.
For the correction, Dedie James Bowen died in Houston, Texas and is buried in the Veterans Cemetery in Houston, not in Corpus Christi.
Additional Info:
David Bowen apparently died in Yoakum, not in Corpus Christi, as originally thought. The cemetary records at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemtary in Yoakum indicates all of the Bowen men (i.e. David, John, Asa, and Edward Floyd) are apparently buried in unmarked graves in the cemetary. I have the death certificate for John from Wink, TX where he apparently worked the oilfields.
Joseph Ray Bowen death occurred by drowning in Australia. He had tried to rescue a fellow soldier that had been caught in a strong current and became exhausted in the effort. Other soliders came to their aid and resucued the original soldier and had a rope tied around Bowen but he slipped out and disappeared. This is based on Army records which we requested and received.
Thanks for a great website.
