On Sunday, January 12, we
were invited to Paul Herricks 50th birthday
celebration. Joan had this banner posted over the
dining room window...
|
|
...and this reminder
posted near the living room door!
|
|
The fireplace mantle was
decorated, complete with candles and birthday
cards.
|
|
Joan did a wonderful job
preparing for the party. She served dinner, provided
wine and invited all of Paul's friends from years
gone by.
|
|
Paul and Art enjoy
discussing politics. Art is a good friend that Paul
met while teaching philosophy.
|
|
Bill and Janet Shaffer
listen as the group gathers to tell stories about
Paul.
|
|
Joan begins the
story-telling, as friends around the room eagerly
listen. We hear from Dick Patten that Paul was blamed
for letting out a loud fart while speaking in front
of a large crowd of JBS campers. Dick admitted that
he had done it, but had kept such a straight face
that everyone blamed Paul, since he was bent over in
laughter!
|
|
Joan's daughter tells the
story of Paul making macaroni and cheese for dinner.
Paul was trying to make a good impression. The only
problem was that Paul used cream of mushroom soup
with the noodles and forgot to add cheese. He made an
impression alright!

I made this collage for
Paul Herrick as a reminder of friendships over the
years.

For Christmas, Anne gave
us two gift certificates to the Cascadia Restaurant,
which is located in downtown Seattle. Valorie and
Lola stand in front of the restaurant entrance, which
had trees decorated with pretty pink lights.
|
|
Valorie stands in front
of the impressive "rain window", which separates the
dining room from the kitchen. The nine-foot structure
features a carved etching of the Cascade mountain
range with soft flowing water over its
surface.
|
|
At the end of our
seven-course "tasting" menu, we pause for a picture
taken by our helpful waiter.
|
|
For Anne's 23rd birthday,
we had dinner at the Red Mill in Seattle, and then
returned to Paul and Tara's house for the birthday
celebration. Instead of a birthday cake, we had
brownies from the Black Diamond Bakery.
|
|
The smoky end after
making her birthday wishes. Although it couldn't be
proven, Jason accused Anne of spitting on the
cake.
|
|
...and it's hard to tell
what Anne was doing here. Was she trying to guess
what is in the package? ...having a gas attack? ...or
simply looking for guidance from above?
