William Henry Barrett in Corinth, WWI
These photos are in Panama, during WWI and his WWI Draft Card. My grandfather, William, was a Marine during WWI. He was in Panama and in Corinth. These two pictures are of those two places. I am unsure of which "Corinth" he was in, but I like to believe it was Greece. The photo says "This is where we went fishing while in Corinth. I will mark a X where I am standing. W.H.B." |
The above photos are of Camp Elliot, in Panama, where my grandfather was stationed during WWI.
I did not know my grandparents as my grandfather died the year that my parents were married. My grandmother died when I was a little girl, only 10 years old at the time.
My grandfather had been married once before he met and married my grandmother. His first wife was Nellie Mae George. They had a son, named Clifford, who was living with his grandparents in Swanton, OH in 1930. I can remember meeting him once or twice as a kid, but don't remember much about him.
My grandmother's name was Rose Eunice Adams. The 1910 Ohio Census Miracode lists my grandmother as 24 yrs old and as Eunice R, instead of the Rose Eunice that we have always understood to be her name. Of course, we all know that the Census takers were not always to be trusted on how they wrote things down. She was still living in the household of her father in 1910. Eunice's parents were Edward Collier Adams and Corrie M Hemenway. Rose Eunice was born in Kansas, but I have yet to find a birth certificate for her.
In the days when she was born, in 1886, birth certificates were not always issued. She came from a long line of Adams, who you can see on the GEDCOM sites.
After my grandparents met they lived in Niles, Trumbull County, OH. Most, if not all, of my father's siblings and himself, were born there. In 1920 William and Eunice are living in Niles, Trumbull Co, OH, and in 1930 they are in Swan Creek, Fulton Co, OH. Since William's mother died in Mar 1930, it is possible they moved closer to be around in her last days. Remember, too, that William had been married before and his eldest son, Clifford, was living with Cyrus and Mary. You can see their headstone on the right.
