Our family tree consists of the ancestors and descendants of our paternal grandparents, Henry Lawrence AVERY (1888-1979) & Helen Winifred WRIGHT (1988-1959), who married on October 16, 1913 in Bellevue, Ohio; and those of our maternal grandparents, Warren Otto GOODWIN(1891-1980) & Clarissa Louise POWERS (1894-1978), who married October 17, 1914 in Angola, Indiana. Maternal lines and other surnames are included as well.
We trace our AVERY roots to the Groton Avery Clan (Groton, Connecticut, USA) – to Christopher AVERY (born in England about 1590) and his ancestors. Christopher and his only son James arrived in the New World sometime before 1642.
Our WRIGHT family roots were planted in Bellevue, Ohio, by John WRIGHT III (born in England in 1823, died in Ohio 1908) and Betsy FORD (born in England in 1823, and died in Ohio 1886).
We have traced the GOODWIN line only to David GOODWIN (1782-1849).
ThePOWERS line has been traced to Walter POWER (born 1639 or 1640, probably in Essex, England). His son Daniel POWERS (born 10 May 1669) was the first to use an “s” on the end of the name.
Over time, these web pages will become a virtual repository for the family history research undertaken by our mother, Barbara Mary GOODWIN Avery. Genealogy in its broadest sense was her passion for more than 30 years. We will include photos, and transcribed family letters and diaries dating back to the 1830’s, and family stories derived from those sources and elsewhere. These pages will include research by other family members as well, which we will acknowledge with gratitude.
We will add material continually, as our time, talent, and treasure allow.
Y’all come back soon.
