The lineage of Florence Howell Wood is much easier to trace than that of her husband: her ancestors thus far have proven to be less elusive. Florence was born to Orlando J Howell and Nora Baker Howell on September 5, 1892 in Long Eddy, NY. She was their first child, and would be later followed by sisters Mae (who married Lee Kellam) and Hattie (who married Leslie Barriger).

Orlando was born around 1865 to Albert and Delilah Howell. He was born in Pennsylvania, almost certainly in Mount Pleasant as census records from 1860 place his parents and his paternal grandparents in that township. Delilah was born around 1840 in Pennsylvania; from census records we know that her mother was born in PA as well and her father was born in Ireland. Orlando's father Albert was born about 1835 in Pennsylvania. So far there is no indication he served in the Civil War although he was of age. Albert's father David was born about 1798, and his mother was named Mary or Malathy -the census is difficult to read. David may have been related to Job Howell and Mary may have been born in New Hampshire.

Nora was born in June 1870 to Lucas Baker and Hattie Raymond Baker. She died on December 5, 1923 after a long illness. Hattie was the daughter of John Raymond and Jane Frettenburg and wasborn in 1847 and died in 1909. Lucas was born in 1847 to James Baker and Phebe Mitchell Baker and died in 1919. Phebe was born in 1808 to Nathan Mitchell and Anna or Anne Brown. Nathan was born 1775 in Cochecton to Nathan and Elizabeth Ross. Nathan fought in the Revolution as did his father-in-law, Joseph Ross.
