Thomas W. Stone Muster Roll

Thomas W. Stone's muster papers from both the Confederate and Union Army

How many of you can say you had a great grandfather who fought on both sides. Although I have heard several versions of the story it may be that he was not conscripted and he may have not walked all the way into Kentucky to join the Union Army. I have more information on order.

On December 16, 1864 the 12th Tennessee Cavalry U. S. A. clashed with the 12th Tennessee Cavalry C. S. A. Captain Boyer, of the 12th, U.S.A., had a hand-to-hand fight with Colonel Rucker, C.S.A., then commanding a brigade. Each wrested the sabre of the other from his hand. One account says Captain Boyer then drew a pistol and shot Rucker in the arm. Another account says Rucker was shot by an unknown soldier standing near by. The flag of Ruckers Brigade was also captured.Source TNGENWEB
