I'm
looking for Mills, Miles, Mull, Milne, Desmoulins,
Mullins, Meulen, Vermeulenand Moulinsmen
to participate in a Y-DNA testing project. Since
this is a group study the cost is only $99 each (plus postage) if you
join ordering the 12 marker Y-DNA kit. Participants are encouraged
to join though by ordering the 37 or 67 marker test though.
The MILLS DNA Project was started with the vision of assisting Mills
researchers worldwide with the follow:
Identify others who are related
Solve brick walls in your research
Validate existing research
Our Project Goals are:
Identify and document
worldwide relationships. This will be accomplished by having
participants join with the name variations of Miles, Mull, Milne, Desmoulins,
Mullins, Meulen, Vermeulen
and Moulins. Once this goal is met project
participants will have a better understanding of possible name changes
that may have occurred in their line. This will assist in
identifying relationship where names changes occurred.
Identify and document the
different Mills family lines in the US. This will be
accomplished by having at least 50 Mills men tested. These 50
men should have at least 4 generations of their Mills family
documented. Once this goal has been met the project participants
will have gained a better understanding of the different family lines
and will narrow down their research efforts since they will not need
to research unrelated families any further.
Identify and document the
Y-DNA of early the Mills settlers reflected below. This will be
accomplished by having at least 3 Mills men tested, for each early
settler, that has documented their ancestry back to the early settler.
Once this goal is met the project participants will have understanding
of their family lines, relations and ancestry. This will also
help many identify their early settler which will narrow down their
research efforts.

All test results are published on this site by kit number and your
earliest ancestor. The participants name will not be published. The
benefits of participating in a group study is that everyone gets to know
the results. FamilyTreeDNA notify you if someone matches your results exactly
in their database.
Women with the birth name of Mills can participate by ordering
the 'Maternal Match' kit. The group study cost of this kit is $179.
This tests the mtDNA of females and the female lineage of males (HVR1)
for matches. Mills men participating in the Y-DNA 12 marker test can
upgrade their test results to include the 'Maternal Match' results for
an additional cost of $100.
This
Inheritance Chart
reflects how paternal and maternal DNA is inherited. So by looking at this
chart you can see that the men's Y-DNA testing in progress represents the
left outer most results. And the 'Maternal Match' test would represent
the right outer most results.
Since maternal DNA is always
inherited from the mother, the results would reflect if participants have
maternal matches on the right outer most of the chart - however it will
not identify surname matches since the maternal line does not pass down
the same surname.
Participants of the Mills Maternal
Match study should only include those with the birth name of Mills or
females with a Mills female on the outer most right of the chart. If I
figured this out correctly, this would gives us a better chance of
identifying maternal matches. Even if you do not find a maternal match
with another participant of this project, FamilyTreeDNA would notify you
of others that match your maternal line's outer most side.

mtDNA Results page.
If men currently participating in the
Y-DNA testing want to participate in the Maternal Match test, they will
be able to upgrade their current test results to include testing
for maternal matches once their current Y-DNA test results are in.
FamilyTreeDNA will automatically notify you that your results are in and
provide a link to see your results and upgrade or test results if
desired.

test should provide me their maternal outer most pedigree in the format
I have shown above.
